I am in the market for tires. Have been looking at the BFT AT T/O, the Goodyear Duratracs and the Hankook Dynapro ATM in 315/70-17 sizes. Cant decide the route to go since all three have excellent reviews.
Also on my exhaust, I currently have a Flo-pro 4" muffler with a 5" tip and still have the cat, I dont know if I should ditch the muffler but I have a feeling that my cat may be fixing to fall off, should I just run the 4" to the muffler or go ahead and straight 4" it. I was thinking that either way I go to maybe have a slip joint put on the ends so that I could swap it out from straight to muffler if I wanted to try both ways.
Next I am fixing to get a 3 guage pillar pod with boost, fuel pressure and pyro. I have been looking at Glowshifts setup (the 7 series) and they look pretty sweet but I have read stories about them not being very good. Which brand along the same look would be a good option or is Glowshift ok.
BFG is my first choice then Goodyear, straight pipe is age related, annoying to me so lose the kitty. I use Isspro gauges, your call if you want actual gauges or just a monitor that will display what you choose.
I probably won't make your decision any easier. I have owned the BFG AT TA's and absolutely loved them. This was years ago on a Ranger that I had, so no experience with them on a SD. They were GREAT in the snow, but never took them off road.... I don't think you will be disappointed..
As you know I have the Hankook Dynapro's now. So far I am very impressed. They are wearing well and are very quiet considering the tread pattern. I would say the only part I don't like is cornering at high speeds, high speeds being 75-80. The do walk a little... I can tell you in snow they are the bomb... I know you won't be worried about too much snow where you live.
JMHO, I will never own Goodyears tires again. Ive had bad luck with 2 sets, and am done with them...
I have had the Hankook Dynapro ATM's on for almost 6,000 miles and I love them. Before that I had the Hankook Dynapro MT 315/70/R17. I looked at alot of tires and did alot of research before I got my new set and decided to go with the ATM at 295/70/R17 10 Ply E rated.
The only downfall I have with them is they are made in freakin CHINA, I am normally a buy American type of guy, but when a product works, it works.
edit: I should add that I bought a set of 285/70/17 BFG A/T when I first bought the truck and was never able to get them to wear correctly. At 1000 miles at the suggested PSI the fronts were cupped badly and the rears were wearing the center out so I had to rotate them and was able to get them to wear a little more even by offsetting the pressures higher up front and lower in the rear. But they never really straightened out and I was rotating them every 1500 miles until I got rid of what was left of them at about 25,000 miles.
No emission testing in the part of Texas I'm at. Right now I think it sounds good, mainly want it to breathe better. It's not too loud until its really romped on. Havent heard a straight piped 6.0 in person only on youtube vids.
As far as the guages, I already have a scanguage 2 dash mounted but want the pod for what that doesnt cover.
Tire wise, I originally was leaning to the Hankook Dynapro ATM's and they are the cheapest of the three Im looking at. They are load range E where I dont believe the other 2 arent. Something keeps pulling me back to the Hankook's, maybe its a sign. The norm locally is to run BFG A/T's or similar tread pattern, there is a Cooper that looks similar on a truck at work. I believe you are running the M/T Dynapro's Shane? I could be mistaken but I think your pattern is the mud tire for them which I was originally looking at after you talked about them. Being that my truck sees more pavement than dirt, didnt really need anything that aggressive which led me to the ATM's. Wasnt til the last week or two that I really looked at anything different.
I'm in the same boat needing tires, I like the Hankook, but they are not available locally so I'd have to get them online adding like 30 bucks a tire, anyone ever use the Firesone Winterforce LT, they seem to be available everywhere here and good price on the 10 ply. Or can someone point me to the Hankook to buy local, Walmart, Sears maybe?
I have ran the dynapro atm's and was extremely happy with the on road manners, performance, wear, ect. But for me they didn't come up to par off road. They don't clean well in clay, but you may not have that issue.
I am also running a 4in straight pipe now and I love it. Shows off my powermaxx. But even the full 4in with a muffler worked well. I would vote for just lose the cat if you don't want it too loud. If not then lose the muffler when you're ready to do so.
Dynapro atms on my wifes suburban are awesome. 25000 miles on them and still over half tread. Great in snow. Decent in mud. Cant wait to get a set for my truck
The tires wouldnt really be in any clay mud, not a whole lot of mud period except for say the occasional muddy dirt road after a hard rain. Got stuck in the pasture with my slick Cooper Discoverer ATR's but it was more my fault than the tires. Waited until I was already bogging down and then didnt have room to engage the ESOF and bogged down more, manually locked them in then but it was too late. Kinda hard to get unstuck when your sitting on your axles before you turn on the 4x4..lol, least I was at home with the tractor nearby.
Anyone have any guage recommendations? I can get the Glowshift 7 color tripod set (boost, pyro and fuel) for around $250 or is there a better set. Thanks.
