not sure took both mine off at the same time, big gain, but i think i read where some guys say that the muffler doesn't make near the restriction that the cat does which makes sense, so you shouldn't be losing too much by leaving it on. but the sound with neither is awesome.
The Muffler is or at least should be the "Straight through" design and creates next to nothing in the way of back pressure. I left my Muffler on and I don't think that I am losing a significant amount of anything.

When I put on my new MBRP exhaust, I could see straight through the muffler. I am sure the surround perforations in the baffles must induce a little bit of drag, bu I can't imagine it would be that much.
I put the muffler on because it came with the kit. If I was going from scratch and having the plumbing bent, I would have probably not put one on. But I paid for it so I figured I'd just use it.
