Hey guys, I'm going to be pulling my ip here in the next week or so to have it rebuilt. Just wondering if the stanadyne pump has a shafg lock that needs to be locked before pulling it off the gear? Thanks!
No lock that i know of. For me it was easiest to pull the lines off the injectors, then the IP gear bolts, then the IP to housing bolts, comes right out. Took me about 20-30 minutes, i was NA at the time tho.
thanks hairyboxnoogle, I'm na right now also. The pump is just leaking, I plan to pull the motor and put a turbo set up similar to yours on but using a garret from a obs powerstroke while I'm waiting for the local shop to do the pump.
Just a standard rebuild for now unless I can get my shop here in Ogden to do anything to it small while there in it. The db2 should be fine for what I plan on doing
I gotcha. I think there is a pretty good diesel shop in SLC that would be able to do some tweaking on them. Also just to make sure the info is known. You can get a turbo calibrated pump from DPSperformance for what most shops charge for a standard rebuild. ($450)
Thanks for the info on the dps pump! yeah I'm using bakers here in Ogden cause I use them alot for work here at the case equipment shop and they are pretty good but if they can't do it for me for less I'll just order a turbo calibrated pump
No problem, theyre pricing is definately reasonable. Most consider it almost manditory to replace injectors and pumps at the same time. Idea being that a new pump will take out weak injectors, and visa/versa
As far as outright selling them, DPS is the only company i know that does, they have stage 1's for sale, and are working on stage 2's. There is a member on oil burners that gets them machined and sells them, but they are very expensive, close to what PSD injectors cost. Ill pm you the link.
Seems they updated the website since i was last there, but i sent you the link.

There are three 12-point head bolts that attach the IP to the gear. Remove the small cover on front of the timing cover, opposite of the IP. You will see three small (5/16 I think if my memory is right) bolts. Take these out, that is the IPP gear bolts that hairy is referring to. The pump has a notch that fits to the gear for timing, but the bolts hold it the gear and IP together. I removed the lines from the IP, as my turbo made it real tight fit to get the IP out and I needed all the room I could get.
I did the job on mine, having never done it before or having any previous diesel experience. Lot of gasser stuff, but first time for this. I also put new injectors at the same time. It is also easy to replace your glow plugs with everything out of the way. Get a new return line kit and remember to lube the O-rings (vaseline, oil, grease even, just anything to help slide over) before putting the caps on to prevent cutting or damaging the O-rings.
Thanks 38chev. I should have plenty of room since I'm na plus I'll have the motor out cause I want to go through it and change the cam and put all new seals and gaskets and head studs for the turbo

Bakers is the place I recommend to guys that need work done. They are honest and reliable. They are also good at turning up diesels and keeping the smoke at a minimum. Joe Bradley is the guy I used to use (Bradly's Injection Service) but he moved to a small town in Washington years ago. He referred all his customers to Bakers.
I know of a really good shop here in missoula that rebuilds the pumps....does it for 100 bucks....at least for me anyway lol. I would say the DB2 will be enough for the turbo and stage 1's(if you spend the money for them lol) but other wise just BB code injectors will do great as well..
