Crane cam too much?

So, ive finally got the cam out of my truck that has been popping and backfiring out of the carb. Finally, figured out that my heads needed a complete rebuild and they're at the machinist. I found out that the cam is a crane cam 133042 which has a duration of 272. Is this going to be to much for my 400? The 400 has a holley 750cfm carb, edelbrock intake, and had straight up timing. My machinist thought this might be too much for the truck and i haven't had too much experience with this and just wanted to see if anyone can give me input on what they think... I dont want to put this cam in if its not going to work well with my set up. Any info would be great and i hope im not being to vague. If i am let me know and ill try to elaborate the best i can.

Looks like a low-end cam that should work ok in your motor. Are you stock on your CR? That would be the only issue I would think.

272 H10 camshaft & lifter kit - Fd. 351C- 351M- 400 V8 70- 82

Your 750CFM carb is a bit big. Is that a vacuum secondary carb?

If your valves were not sealing, that will certainly make a crappy pop bang backfire motor, so see what happens when those are good.

I would reuse it. Don't forget to messure for push rod length. Stock ones probably will not work.

Good point. If the stock pushrods and springs were used, they may not work with that cam. Check it out.....

Did so already. Shouldve mentioned that. When i brought the heads to the machine shop he said that one of the previous owners just put on the valve springs without paying attention to what goes where and thats why the guides and valves had damage. It caused them to be super loose im guessing from wear. Now the pushrods.. How would i go about knowing the proper length? Im new to this and learning as i go so thanks for all the help so far!
