You are very lucky Bud. As are the other folks on the road that the tire and wheel could have hit.
A local Log Truck lost a set of rear duels and killed everyone in the oncoming car that stopped them.
Yeah, I am lucky I guess... Had it been a front tire, the axle probably would have wiped out everything under me. I don't carry a lot of faith in my radius arms.
That ***** is scary, I had bought new studs from autozone, they are grade 8, it took about 20 minutes for me to seat them all the into the hub. (Front right hub)
I think I got studs from AZ for my front hubs. They seem ok but nothing special. My neighbors kid works for a place called Honest Performace and I could take my axle up there and buy studs from them, then have them press them in for me. I am not sure on the price but it might be worth it.
In other news I got the backing plate off and the axle out. It was fairly easy but kind of messy. So tomorrow at work I am going to talk to my boss about heading to his place and robbing parts off a 9" he has up there. I also want to see if I could score some rims from him. I have a water pump from a jetted tub he might be able to use so I could try trading.
I had some trouble getting the parking brake off but my neighbor confirmed my suspicion that I had to squeeze those little finger things through it.
Plate is off, the wheel cylinder is off, ready to be replaced.
The damage to this was extensive.
Back side. The metal is all frayed and pointy.
And, the axle tube. No damage done to it.
I had a heck of a time jacking it up, I had a small jackstand on this side and was trying to get the other side up so the tire could spin and I could get the backer bolts loosened, well I had that jackstand sitting on gravel while i raised the right side and I noticed the truck moving left a little. I took a look and saw the jack stand was leaning... So I had to throw a jack under the diff and raise both sides up from there. Then put bigger stands under it and a piece of plywood over the softer gravel. It was a little freaky, I don't need more damage done to this.
Nah, happened on Friday. On my way to my new job too, up on 167. I don't know how or why but the tire and drum never hit another car and came to rest against the center median. WADOT fetched them for me in their trucks and waited till the tow truck got there to pick me up.
Ever been down by the 84th exit near Bowen Scarff Ford? I ended up after the onramp for that, then the tire and drum ended up down the road around the bend a bit.
Eh Plumber trainee/apprentice. But yeah. Me and the neighbor across from me work at the same place, he lined me up with the interview. I am working at $12/hr so my first paycheck will be nice. Unfortunately most of it will be gone to fixing the truck...
