bad news, Volare ifs

I removed the front sheetmetal from my 56 today to do an engine swap.I had noticed the truck was lower on the passenger side.I found that the torsion bar on the passenger side is broken. The lower control arm is setting on the rubber stop. The truck has not been driven in about a year. The bar must have broken the last time I drove it or when I moved the truck since then. I can't believe I didn't notice it when it happened.
I suspect something has not been quite right since I installed the frontend because the truck was always lower than I expected . I suppose I will get a matched pair of torsion bars off a junker and switch them out. I know a junkyard that has a full size cop car that had a 440 engine.I'm going to chek it out tomorrow.

My truck is now up on blocks with the torsion bars removed. I went to 5 local salvage yards yesterday and none of them had a car with the torsion bar ifs like mine. I believe that I could use the bars from any rear wheel drive Chrysler passenger car 1976 or later.I will resume my search after the New Years holiday.
Removing the bars from my truck was not near as difficult as I expected.
I don't believe that I would use a volare ifs again if replacement parts are already so scarce.

You should be able to use bars from any Dodge Diplomat or Chrysler 5th Avenue up to 1989. They are becoming scarce but you still should be able to find them...

If you mean replace both I surely will. I would only use a pair off the same donor vehicle. If I run across some other interesting ifs choice during my search I will cut off the volare and use something else.

With the resurgence of muscle car restoration Mopar is selling new torsion bars for A/B/E body cars (Challenger, Baracuda, etc). See page 135 in http://www.mopar.com/assets/pdf/catalog/mopar_performance_parts_catalog.pdf
I'm not sure how different they are from what you have but it might be worth any modification vs working with old parts.

I also came across this article http://www.arengineering.com/articles/tbartango.html from 2002 but Hershberger Motors in Woodburn, OR is still in business at 800-311-3945. They might be able to help you out.

I meant buy enough for two replacements. If they're hard to find and you can a bone yard with the parts you might want the spares.

If you can buy new I'd go that route.
