There are some rust spots on the bottom of my tailgate. I already removed the small patches with sandpaper. It's mostly down to metal now.
What I want to do is put some primer on those patches and then put some sort of protective band over that spot. Maybe something that has a chrome finish. it is just to hide all the ugly part and seal it.
I was thinking rhino lining around the bottom. I would never have to worry about the rust again. Alltho, if it isn't fixed well the rust will grow from the inside.
Make sure you use a stabilizing black oxide primer, the kind that transforms rust into primer. This helps inhibit further rust in case you missed any. Once that is stabilized, you go over it with the epoxy. Sand and smooth repeatedly till you get a suitable surface. Once it is fairly smooth, go over it with sandable primer. That will seal the epoxy, and help prevent any moisture from getting underneath and behind the epoxy. This will also help enhance the bond of any liner you put over it.
