surface rust on a 67 F250
Does anyone have any advice on how I should tackle the job of cleaning up this truck before I have a chance to get it painted?
There is lots of surface rust in spots all over the truck, do I grind out the rust and then spot prime the areas? I know it will end up looking like a zebra or some other african animal, but I just want to help the old truck out before I get a chance to paint it (probably not this year)
Thanks.
1) Sand the rusty area to bare metal. Since rust will creep under paint, remember to sand past the edges of the rust until you reach clean metal.
2) Treat the sanded area with a rust treatment. I'm talking about products like Rust Mort, Metal Ready, & Picklex20. They etch the metal and convert the micro-rust to an inert compound.
3) Spray with epoxy primer. Epoxy will seal out water and seal in any remaining micro-rust.
If not then do the above mentioned routes with rust converters
