Did one of the major glass shops actually carry the glass, or did you order it? I'm in dire need of a new windshield but waiting til after I try out my wipers, don't want scratches on new glass.

I checked with a local glass shop and they could cut me one if I had a pattern. I ordered one from LMC Truck and kept the old one for a pattern if I ever need one again. The way windshields get damaged I feel sure I will need one again.
When I bought my glass a few months ago, none of the local shops seemed to want my business. LMC was cheap, and it was here in a sturdy box a few days later.
Quite a few years ago I broke my glass on a Friday night, I was planning on going to a show on Sunday. I called around on Saturday and none of the auto glass wanted anything to do with me. All they wanted to sell was packaged glass for newer cars. I ended up going to a shower door company and they had no problem cutting a windshield out of the proper safety glass. I had it by 12 noon on that Saturday. The auto glass places, at least in my area, just want to pull and install new glass. I suppose there's a lot less labor involved in pulling a piece of pre-made glass out of a box and gluing into place.
BTW, nice windshield. You said insurance handled it, what happened?

Thanks, It was just a small rock knocked a chip out of it. It was the second time it happened. Second time I was on my way to a car show, bad luck. It was directly in front of the driver as they always are. I have full coverage with Haicock, I think that is how it is spelled, and they had no problem sending me the check. Only thing they asked was the mileage and where and when it happened. I wanted a tinted one but it was not legal here. I did check with a glass co. and they said if I had a pattern they could cut one. I did not get a price. I will have a pattern next time.
