I have been trying to buy the correct fuel pump relay all day. Two trips to NAPA and two wrong relays. The guys there cant find the right one so I was wondering if anyone here knows..
I have a 1990 F350 with a 351. The relay is green in color and has a little slot sticking out of it ( its not perfectly squared)
Anyone have any ideas on where I can find a part number to give these guys? Even checking part stores online gives me the same parts NAPA was throwing at me..
Perhaps you could post a pic? You might try this part number: B5B4 K998. Given the age of your truck, some of the parts people are not as familiar with this vintage of vehicles; they are more attuned to the later models. Ford has at least two generations of relays that have been used since what your truck uses.
It has two codes on it. The one molded into the plastic is:0j20z1 ( I think ), stamped onto it in ink is: e3tb9345a2a. NAPA ran these numbers and they didnt help. Its a bit hard to see but there are FOUR pins and half of the case is green, the other half is black.
you can not find that relay in a parts store because most parts stores do not sell it.
that is usually a dealer item only.
Oh that sucks! Im moving 120 miles today and the ford dealer in town is closed. IF the relay were to fail, is there another onboard that can be swapped in or can I use a wire to jump it? Not sure which pins to connect...
Most of the time the wiring under the relays socket fails and not the relay.
Why do you think your fuel pump relay is bad?
You can also wire a newer stile Bosh type relay in its place. This is what most do when the wires give out under the relay or the relay itself.
Here is a wiring diagram on how to rewire it.
The diagram says F150 but the F350 is the same.
