when i first start the truck up and accelerate, the throttle surges almost like i'm flooring it and letting off, flooring and letting off... it does this until it gets warmed up (after about 10 miles or so), and then it doesn't do it any more. it's not running rough or really having any huge impact, it just makes the drive jerky... any ideas?
It almost sounds like the EBPV is closing and opening over and over until engine temp get up. If not already tried unplug the EBPV, just in front and below the turbo. It is a two wire plug, the only one there and see if the problem goes away.
well when it first started about 3 months ago, i was in cali and it was mid 80's, then it did it in New Hampshire when it was high 60's, and now in NY when it's around 70... i already unplugged the EBPV about 8 months ago, so i know that's not it... i thought it was just my foot spazzing for the longest time, but as time went by i figured out that it wasn't. lol
that's what it feels like! i got down on the floor and checked all the wires right at the pedal and one of the wires seems kinda loose, but they're all attached... think that would be of concern???
Since it only does it when it has not been running for a while and not really cold. This symptom could be attributed to fouling out the vent return from the fuel bowl. Or sticking FPR but most likely IPR sticking. Or bad wires at the IPR connection. If you check there and there are no connection problems at the IPR---
I suggest pulling the fuel filter out and then drain the bowl. Using a 7/8" bent over wrench (L-shaped) remove the stand pipe by turning it clockwise (its reversed threaded) then unplug the heater at fuse 22 and then pull the heater and plate out. Clean the bowl out well and check the bowl vent line located at 3 o-clock high up top. You can use brake cleaner and some rags to do the job and flush it out the drian line.
Then pull the FPR out and inspect and clean it up in there as well then put it back.
Close the bowl drain and replace the heater pan and plug the heater in. Reinstall fuse 22. Install the stand pipe. Fill the bowl with diesel partially and drain it out the drain line. Then fill the bowl to about 1/3 with diesel and then then to about half way with transmission fluid. Slowly incert the new fuel filter and allow the filter to absorb the fluid. If its close to the top with fliud when the filter is pressed all the way down, then good. If not top it off a little. If its too full drain some. Then Put the filter lid on and start her up and and allow it to come up to operating temperature buy driving it normal.
Then put one can of Sea Foam in the fuel tank and fill the tank with diesel.
Then run the dog mess out of it for a few minutes. Also forgot to mention if your oil is a little old. Pour some sea foam in there too. Run it for a week and then change the oil out. Running for a week is not really right run about 1/2 the fuel tank down then change the oil.
If it does it again then get a kit and do a IPR o-ring replacement.
One last thing use a wrench on the stand pipe at the hex nut only. If you try to remove the stand pipe anyother way you will end up with half of it in your hand and the other half still in the bowl.
Best of luck
EDIT- It does not sound like the foot pedal issue that our trucks can get when there is a peg alignment issue. But it could be. TJ Beggs has a thread on that here somewhere. Search it out. By using the search thread option at the top right of our forum page.
i went searching for that post myself and did not find it. Its there somewhere though. IT has pictures too. But here is another. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...ive-pedal.html Your problem sounds like the IPR to me.
Daniel, I tried to rep Rocky for that great explanation and his time spent searching for you but I'm in rep jail. I feel that you should give Rocky a rep! Just my two cents.
Hey another question fo you guys, would the glow plug system have anything to do with the throttle jumping? I found an issue with a ground for the left battery that seems to tie into the wires for the GPR and whatnot, and I'm wondering if that would be of concern with this problm too?
