Work boots (ankle support)?

I'd like a pair of work boots that have good ankle support. They don't have to be rated for electrical work...I just need something for working around the house. I'm currently wearing a pair of old military boots for yard work. I twist my ankles on regular basis (old injury) and I need a pair of boots that restrict and/or support the ankle. Is there such a thing?

I'll probably need surgery at some point. I'll be just walking along on my lawn (a little uneven in spots) and my ankle will just give out (I'm assuming it's the tendons...which I've pulled/torn/whatever on multiple occasions). It's a little embarrassing.

I wear Red Wing WORX boot...I have high tops but they also have a lower top that will still cover the ankle."steel toe"...shock resistant, oil repellent sole...blah blah blah. About 130 bucks. The BEST part of these boots are they have a zipper for easy/quick on and quick off. I could roll my ankle with military boots on by stepping on a painted line the wrong way, lol....I know what you mean! Those WORX boots are great for the house. No problem slipping the boots off to run in to get the bladder gage off that redline when drinking beers!

That's a good deal. I'll check those out. It looks like they come in wide too.

I like these. I don't know if I $175 like them though. I'd have to go try them on though (would exclude online deals) to see if I need wide or extra wide.

Those are nice too.
I was talking about these: Work boots fredericksburg - Red Wing Shoes
I am telling ya that zipper feature is pricless (and they are less expensive).
I am sure you will check both of them out when you get there.
Happy boot shopping!

If you want ankle support, you have to have an above ankle boot with laces and you need to cinch em up tight. Kind of like an ice skater.

Those look similar to a boot that some of my former AF co-workers wore. I preferred Corcoran for day to day wear. I picked up a pair of desert Marauders a few months ago to wear around. They're great for wearing around town or if you need more support than a pair of tennis shoes offer. I like them, but soon after picking them up reached the conclusion that I should have just spent another $30-40 and gotten a top-tier pair of work boots.

Yup. I've always been good about that. The problem is that most boots (that I've owned) have zero support. The boots that I'm speaking of are the standard Bates USMC boots that I picked up for dirt cheap online. Probably decent boots for the average person...just no support.

Get Red Wings if you plan to have these for a while. They are more expensive but last a really long time. Especially if you use them daily.

I know everyone is raving about Redwings but take heed....Redwings suck now. They're not near as good as they were 15 or 20 years ago. I would steer clear of them.

I've worked in building oilwell drills for the past 27 years and I always used to wear Redwings....no more. Their soles are crap and the uppers do not last. If you walk a lot, work on concrete, or do any sort of hot work they will not last.

Wearing Wolverines currently. Good ankle support, the soles are Vibrams, and they're a good value. So far no problems.

I've had good luck with Vibram soles. I'll have to check those out too.

I didn't check out boots. Got sidetracked and went to test drive a truck instead.

Timberland Pro boots generally have good ankle support. I had a pair of Rigmasters that were some of the most comfortable boots I have ever worn, but they have poorly made soles and the lace loops were weak. The loops on my third pair lasted about six months, the first two came out of the box broken. I didn't want to deal with the shipping hassle again so I just drilled out the rivets and installed eyelets in the holes. The soles on Timberlands tend to crack if you have to flex them a lot, but hold up otherwise.
I currently have some carbon toe Carolina hikers, but I wouldn't recommend them. They were expensive at $180 and honestly I can't see them as better than $40 wal-mart boots. They don't breath, they don't provide good support, and the sole padding has packed down giving me lots of pain in my legs since I work on concrete 10hours+ a day.

I wear Rockies while carrying mail. They are light weight and provide lots of great cushion and support. They are spendy but I've had great luck witht hem. I walk about 12 miles per day on all terrains.

bought my first set of redwings in sept 07. wife went holy moley, $200 for boots. but i have used them on average 5 days a week since i bought them, and still going strong. not quite sure of the model, looks a lot like the 1412, thinsulate insulation and goretex i think. in any case sole is uncracked, still has decent traction, feet still stay dry when standing in 6 inches of water. yup def pretty poor boots, gee whiz thats $50 Canadian per year for work footwear and still going

I use Wolverines too. Good support & the soles are great. I work construction in mine. They are great for working on concrete all day.Just be sure you buy the ones that say Made in the USA on them. The China made ones suck.
