I'm also willing to consider pull on (cowboy style boots) as long as they have a non slip sole.
I prefer the high top style over the ankle, I'm also willing to consider a boot up to 10" tall.
Other wise I just need the met guard and quality that will last a long time.
I'm also open to custom boots as well.
I have a budget of about $250
I'm leaning towards the reds because I have heard nothing but good stuff about the quality and comfort of their boots.
i have Timberland PRO boots. had them for about 2 months. wear them alost everyday. theyve kicked everything, been run over by a car and several logs, and i can scale a 45* roof with ease. there a great boot.
They go to just above the ankle and their soles are everything-resistant (including fire, as I once found out by accident), they are fairly heavy tho so probably not something you'd wanna wear if you run 18-hour shifts like I used to once, and on hot summer days your feet may get a bit on the uncomfortably warm side, but I'd imagine this would be an issue with about any all-weather work boot...
Red Wings, love em. Made in the USA. The place I work for gives us $125 for new steel toe boots every year at the shoe place around the block. Most guys get the red wing boots.
I've worn through every pair of every Timberlands I've ever owned in under year. Lately I've been buying Chippewas and they are great. I can get three years of hard farm work out of them before they break down. For $130 to $200 you get a great logger boot with a steel tow and waterproof. I really like the ankle support they have. I just got a new pair last weekend and can't be happier.
If Your on Your feet all day, take a look at Georgia Boots w/comfortcore. Most comfortable boot I've ever owned. I go thru a pair of boots a year. 30+ years worth of boots. I've owned them all Redwings, Timberlands, etc. etc.
The Georgia boots out perform them all.
Here's what I've been wearing for the last 4+years
The carolinas were really comfortable to stand in but I've read that the leather tears like paper...I think that may have been someone who just let them get way to dry.
I've been impressed with Danners over the last few years. I've got 3 pair of the 6" Instigator ST GTX. Nothing wrong with all the other suggestions; I just like the Danners for the comfort. They don't wear out any slower.
But to get 10 years out of some WallyWorld boots? Wow. Like the Billy Joel song says "you get more mileage from a cheap pair of sneakers!"
Yeah, I've been impressed. the soles are just starting to get flat, the insoles are shot and hard as a rock, the patch that goes around the toes finally split at the sides from the way it bends when I squat so they fill with water if I step in a puddle.
Its just time for a change, besides I have a job moving heavy tractor parts around a warehouse so I really would like to have metatarsal protection too.
well, imma gonna suggest a pair of Ranger ming boots, they are rubber; I wore a set all summer and was as cool as a cuccumber.....steel toes OR metatarsils for less than $100......otherwise get reds.....simply put, theyre the best.
AS much as I hate to endorse walmart, that is where i get my boots. I tried the justins, danners ect and they wore out just as fast in my line of work. I can get a pair of walmart waterproof hikers and mow with then for 6 months and be out 20 bucks. if i have a problem i just go get another pair. I got tired of the expensive boots as i did not see the advantage for what I do
I dropped a 3" hose clamp on my foot at work tonight. It hit right on the top of my foot.
I know a hose clamp shouldn't be a big deal but its a tractor clamp that is made from a realy thick steel it probably weighs close to a quarter pound.
I know its not much but It really got me thinking that if I have an 80lb box break open...its going right on top of my foot. I need to get some boots soon.
Red wings, i used to wear them religiously.
Now that i work at a concrete plant i get a cheaper boot, not cheap, just cheaper.
The cement powder dries the leather out VERY quickly, i have to oil once a week just to keep boots to last a year, onec a day would be enough to make them last a long time, but i dont really feel like oiling my boots every night when i get home.
