My grandpa turned me onto these boots, he has had a pair for going on 7 years now. Great quality although they are kinda expensive. The steel tow ones I am looking at are going for $270 but they are a little cheaper in the stores probably around 230-250.
Red Wings here also. Knapp use to make a good work boot. I wore a pair for sometime in my working days in the mines.
I have a pair of Danner Boots I like.
Craig
kodiak from Mark's work wearhouse. I think they're made in Canada, and when I did construction a pair would last me a whole season, even working on hot asphalt. They usually run about $100 but In winter they go on sale for 25-50% off. Can't really justify spending more than that on a pair of boots.
I've worn Red Wings for 25 years. Different styles. Most recently their ankle high work shoe. I can't remember the name of the style.
Very well built and re-solable (sp?)too.
Most quality boots and work shoes will last a long time, especially if you take care of the leather uppers with neatsfoot oil or similar products to keep the leather supple.
Stay away from glued on soles. Cheaper, but they never seem to stay on the various shoes I've owned that had them.
Well, I loved the steel toe Wolverines I had way back when, but I wore the soles out on them due to working in a warehouse, all the tread was gone after about 2 years.
Right now I have some steel toe Red Wing boots that I found at a store here called Gabriel Brothers (they sell overstocks, seconds, etc for cheap) and got them for I think $50 or maybe less. It was a nice deal, I mostly wear them just for riding my motorcycle. They're non insulated and have the zipper on the side. They actually aren't super comfortable to walk around in for long amounts of time (even with gel insoles), but that could also be because I'm not used to them since I don't wear them a lot. They seem to rub some of my toes in a weird way.
