I wonder how anyone could let a truck like this just rot into the ground. Even if it's a total rot bucket it would be worth finding a decent more common truck and use this one to make parts.
It's a real shame to see it in this condition as it was once a very nice and unique vehicle, one that should have had a shelter of some kind. Noticed that nice 56 panel sitting in the back ground too, hope it doesn't reach the same fate.
Hollyweird prop vehicles are sometimes modified with a lot of temporary "gingerbread" not designed to be safe, reliable or long lasting. After 3 movies no telling what has happened to it. It still would be nice to save it but it might be a lot more work than it appears - although it appears to be pretty bad.
I can still remember when the Good Humor truck used to drive our streets in Toronto when I was a kid so see this as an original catering truck and not a Hollywood prop. If it were close to me I think I'd take a stab at restoring it if it could be had reasonably cheap. But I think I'm on my last project now since I've retired. $$??
I took pictures of only the ice cream truck while I was there. I had my 5 month old son with me, so I got the only pictures I was able to get. I'll be back out there soon and take more pics of other vehicles sitting out there. A lot of them are customers vehicles that ran out of money/didn't claim, etc., so it's not worth while for the shop owner to spend all his time keeping up vehicles that aren't his (although after a certain amount of days they do become his). He is so busy that he can't keep up with the deadbeats not picking up their rides. You could literally spend a whole day or more looking at all the vehicles and parts at this place.
Here is one for you panel truck fans:
