I was at an auction last fall where a Burma Goat sold that had been modified with the front PTO driving a log splitter, and the bed fenced high to hold the cut wood. Pretty slick adaptation. Stu
Here is an oddball Ford I've always liked. I posted this on the 1947 and earlier forum a couple of weeks ago. A Universal Gun Carrier built by Ford in 1944. It is flathead V8 powered.
the burma Jeeps were made by ford for the years of 1942, 1943, none in 1944 and a batch was made in 1945 for the marines, the Navy had most of them, and the army used a lot of them as well, the marines used them also, they are known as a ford GTB & (G-622), there was appx 15.000 of them built, they were built as bomb carriers, cargo trucks, and a total of 50 were built as tow trucks although no one has seen a tow truck model in the burma crowd that i know, its sort of a mystery where they went, its possible that after or during the war they ended up in some other country. the name burma jeep was a nick name given to these vehicles by the soldiers that drove them on the china burma road, and the name stuck. i love these odd ball trucks and have 8 of them, they used the 226 inline 6 cyl engine, but they had a different type dizzy vertically in the front of the motor, just as the ford G8T trucks had, but now you will find them with the later type 226 motors because they got changed out as time went on. by the end of the Korean war they were phased out of service, i hope all of this was interesting
Oddball for sure and very cool! I was up in Darrington Wa, quite a bit of old iron like this hanging around up there, I'll try and remember my camera next time
