Oh my goodness gracious. Why would any sane person do/buy that????

I thought it was bad when folks started making adapters to put "old" 4-bolt SBC valve covers on later center-valve-cover-bolt SBC engines.

It was worse when people started adapting Oldsmobile (J-2, etc.) valve covers to SBC engines.

But this! What in the wide world of sports are these people thinking???

This is where I get confused ( common occurrence ) . The basis of hot rodding is use what you have , put in bigger , make faster etc but if you are building a vehicle with a budget that allows for a custom crate engine why would you not use the proper engine ?

Proper crate engine; YES! I have a GM crate 350 in Clarence (see avatar). I don't consider a new LS engine disguised as a big block Ford engine to be proper.

I will be the first to admit that I am not the sharpest tack in the drawer; but how in hades would they move the distributor from the rear of a Chevy engine to the front to look like a Ford?

It's a fake, dummy dizzy. The individual coils for the real plugs are under the valve covers, and the ignition is fired by computer.

The reason it works to dress a new LS up like a Ford big block is due to the fact that the LS is electronic and has individual coil packs instead of a distributor, so adding cosmetic parts to make it appear to be something other than what it is, is not difficult. The pictures are of an LS3-480 backed up by a 4L75 transmission. I'm confident you can see what I'm talking about. BTW, you'll be happy to learn this setup is a '47 Chevy PU project I'm doing with my brother.

I saw those kits at the roadster show a few years ago. Doesn't take much looking to see that they are fake.

I don't have a problem with using different brand engines ( my dodge coupe has a chev 350 ) just the idea that if you don't want people to know you have an ls then spend the money on the engine you want don't use a easily detected costume .

I get what you're saying now. If ya want a BB Ford then use a BB Ford. If ya want a 303 Olds then use a 303 Olds. At least that's what I think you're saying. And I agree wholeheartedly.

I'll confess to a slight engine disguise on my truck. I'm running a 500ci Caddy. There's not a lot of options for dress up parts and the stock valve covers were pretty plain.
I took a set of early 50's valve covers, cut the tops of and welded them to the tops of my early 70's engine. I also added the early 50's Caddy/Olds/Packard air cleaner.

In my mind totaly different . A caddy was the cool thing to use in the day and makes it an old school build

That air cleaner has been a desired hot rod accessory for 70 years. I'd run one in a heartbeat.
