Ok all stripped down, block is back on the shipping crate ready to go to the machine shop. Just waiting for Clay to get back and send me some parts.. Like freaking forged rods. The motor was suppose to have forged rods but they ended up PMR's
All the bearings wear trashed. Connecting rods. and crank.
maybe too much advance on the valve timing, which would explain the valve mark in the crown of that slug, and maybe that pushed funny on it causing an uneven load on the shell.
Or maybe it wasn't oiled up as it was put back together, and then wasn't run in properly, which caused the scoring :P
both valves on that cylinder were sticking in the valve stems. So Im happy with the prognosis regarding the valve mark and the bent pushrod. The nut that holds the oil pickup tube was sitting on the bottom of the pan and then there is the markings on all the bearings. My opinion is it just wasnt done right.
motor still at the machine shop. Waiting for new pistons (.010 oversize) and bearings from Clay. Block needs boring. Valve guides need replacing (K lines wont stick). .020 under on the crank and 0.10 on the big end. Clay is also getting the bowl machined on the pistons for me. (thx m8).
Starting painting the stick on bits.
put in a mount on the sump for my oil temp sender. Block will be Ford light blue.
finally got to attack the head in question and found the problem. Sticking valves. All the other valves slid out once the keepers were off. The two on #1 were real tight. Now I just have to work out if its the valve stems themselves or the valve guides.
It kind of adds up to a new engine replaced under warrantee because the oil ran low, doesn't it look that way?
And rather than redo it all, it was halfwayed and passed on...I reckon whoever was the supervisor at the reman shop failed to note an employee falling asleep
-Like they were getting revenge on the consumer or something...
I have no sympathy for people who don't care about quality

it was like pandora's box. the more I opened it up the worse it got. atleast it will be done right this time.
