I think you own the property out to the curb. At least I do here. The city holds an easement, which restricts what I can do somewhat. I can plant a tree out there, but they have to approve the species. Once planted, they will trim and maintain it. But apparently I can plant shrubs out there, because everyone seems to do it. Been thinking about this lately because I want to plop a small palm out there. Is that a tree? I dunno, but I'm gonna do it anyway. It's usually easier to get away with it than to get permission for it.
Anyone done an inner axle seal fix on one of these trucks? Just saw that mine went out. By the looks of it not too long ago. Its erks me because I just did my differential fluid.
I've never done it on a Super Duty, but yeah...you've got a little work to do.
Thats ok.. I already ordered all the stuff for the needle bearing maintenance, and hub maintenance, and was considering adding the brake caliper slide pin doo-dad. Guess inner axle seal gets to join in on the fun!

By I assume you mean I've got some work ahead of me hahaha
That would be correct. But that is the outer axle seal, not the inner axle seal. The inner axle seal is on the inside of the axle tube near the differential. That being said....if you are getting fluid at that point, you probably need to replace both seals. The inner seal requires a special tool to pull out and reinstall though.
I would grab a can of PB Blaster and start soaking the 4 bolts that hold the unit bearing to the knuckle. I'm assuming you have looked at Guzzles write up?

I have looked at them for everything else listed. Does he have one for the seals too? I heard you can make due without the special tool.
If it just started leaking right after the diff oil change, it was prolly leakin' before, but the level was too low to tell. With a full pumpkin, she's (oil's always a gal) easin' over the seal, down the dirty axle tube and making decorations on the pavement. Trey, you can tell me tomorrow how helpful my 2c was.
