If you're on a raised foundation, a sure sign is cracked grout.

Thinset sorta' sticks to oak, especially if they painted it with concrete bonder as they went along.

That would make the tile removal really tough.

If it's right down on the oak that floor's probably gonna have to come out anyway. I don't know if you could sand it down far enough to get to something that would look good finished.

Tack strips through the tile might be kinda' "interesting", too!

This is vinyl tile, not ceramic. It is not peel n stick, but the mastic is very thin. The 8x8 tiles are still flexible and they are popping right off for me. The room is sort of two distinct sections, because there was an addition made sometime in the past. I have all the tile off the first section and it looks great. Nothing that won't sand out nicely, with some character. We'll see on the second half.

Ahhhh, THAT kind of "tile".

In the words of Emily Litella, "Never mind...."

Right now, I can't think of anything I dislike more than "mastic".

At least you don't have asbestos.

I'm sure it is not old enough to have asbestos, but I hope the dump will let me dump it. I don't know the rules about that stuff.

That may be considered "hazardous waste" in which case, you will not be able to dump it or even transport it without the proper permits.

Stack it up in the garage and throw a few tiles away in the trash every week....

So what are everyone's plans for this weekend?

I plan on doing a little maintenance on the truck, drinkin some cold ones, and exercising my 2nd amendment rights.

Sounds like a great plan...
Unfortunately, I'm not old enough to do either of the last two things you mentioned...
