It was a huge amount of work.....but at the time I had few options. Taking a patch out of another junk board would be WAY easier.
I cut the old "U" supports off the bottom and welded small channel iron back on after I patched them.
The bar stock wasn't a perfect fit and yes, I did have to use a little mud to smooth em out.
Since I was putting bedliner on them, I didn't make them perfect.
Ok after looking at your pics, they changed the rib design in '57. Not similar. The rib design is the same from 57-90's heavy trucks. Some larger trucks used a shorter step, but had the same bottom plate.

I guess i am sort of surprised that nobody makes patch panels for them. I wonder how many different patterrns there are? I just cant see spending $500 for fiberglass/ $1000 for steel reproduction. Of course if i had that kind of expendable cash, i guess i would! LOL Oh well...
Obsolete Ford in OKC has die stamped steel running boards.
48-52 for $575 a pair.
53-56 for $400 a pair.
Really? thats pretty good then! i think i saw a thousand in LMC and just figured that they all would be about that cost...
Thanks Grizz!
edit: those are probably F1's though right? Cuz mine are F3's
should have the boards off this week. you just need 2 20" pieces??
I'll mark them and get some pictures to post so I get the right amount.
the front rolled edge of boards are not perfect but i think the flat section (where yours are rusted out) should be ok. I'll include the front roll section then you can just trim any excess off that you don't need.
Anyone else need some patch material from these boards (if theres any length left when im done cutting out the 2 pieces for Jeff and Nicole, otherwise they will be going to you know where...
In case any one else is looking for some patch panels, I also have a pair from an F2/F3 that are solid in the ribbed top, but the sides are dented and rolled in.
bumping this back up for someone who needs to fix their panel boards. I was getting a used gravel pan and the guy had some beat up pickup boards for free, I hope it's enough to fix 2 sets of panel boards.
I still need the end(rear fender end) of the drivers side board, about the last 6" of an F1 board. if there is one that is still decent enough to weld on. I was fortunate enough to end up with the passenger side one from JMadsen. at the time, I didn't even know I needed it. My boards are straightened out at the ends and it was done poorly. I want them to follow the contour of the fender like they are supposed to be. Thanks!
I am having the same issue with my 1950 F2 running boards.
If there are donner pcs enough to go around , please let me know too.
The 3/4" X 1/8" welded to sheeet steel sounds doable too. I guess a guy could grind a small radius on the edges prior to welding in place.
I keep watching to see if anybody chimes in with that GREAT idea.
PS: this site is very good. I just started to tear mine apart to redo all the sheet metal.
