Guys , my 48 F1 needs "heel" of front fender patch panels , corner patches for upper side of fender , and rear fender patches at running board , anybody know a source for these ?? , what about the "inner" bracings for these areas as well , as they are rotted as well , looks like "typical" rot areas , thank you , jim p ..
Just FYI. A little while back, I called EMS and asked about those front fender patches that go above and below the front fender seam. He said they discontinued them. I asked him what it would take for them to reproduce some more. His answer at that point was they "lost" the dies (yeah right). So I was at the NSRA supernationals in Knoxville 2 weeks ago. EMS was there with a big display. So I asked them there. They gave the honest answer--they didn't sell enough and it was just not profitable.
LOL... Never did understand why companies/people don't tell the truth.... And why since they already have the dies why they don't have a few on the shelves or make when ordered...
Bottom line with most of these old girls is you need to make your own- My F-68 (F3) needed a lot of metal replaced, I just bought full sheet of saten finish 16guage and a whole wack of cutting wheels, jig saw blades, etc. Half the fun of the restoration for me is in the fabrication and welding side of things.
You will never regret buying yourself a shrinker/stretcher and some hammers and dollies, and with a little practice you will amaze yourself with what you can make.
