I am gonna need to patch my running boards. they are in great shape EXCEPT for where the steel reinforcement channel is welded to the bottom side. This is my 49 F3 btw.
Are patch panels available somewhere?
What years match the top surface ribbing? '48 thru ?
Does anyone have extra pieces of running board that are only good for patching?
I would need a total length per side of aprox. 20"
Master Chief, I have some 60's F700 running boards with bullet holes on the vertical part, but the ribbed part is intact, do you have a photo of yours?
I am working on some for an F2. For the curved section I used sheet metal formed around a drive shaft (1957 plymouth-same radius). For ribs I used a donor. I need to take some pics.

I will take some pictures and dimensions tomorrow!

Yeah the ribbed area is where my problem is. Thanks!
I was thinking about it and still may, but i wanted to try to find some donors if possible and cost would have an effect on this too. I mean if i gotta spend much for patch pieces then i will have to make a decision.
edit: i have an idea what i COULD do but not sure it would turn out well.
I didn't have any donor boards, so I used 3/4x 1/8 bar stock for the ribs.....then put flat sheet under them to make the bottom. Kinda hard to explain. Sorry, no pics. My r/b were real junk to start with, I put bedliner on them....it hides a lot of the ugly...

Earlier when i said i had an idea, but wasn't sure how it would work out?
Thats exactly what i was thinking about! Got any pictures of doing that?
I guess more importantly, how did that work out? Did you use body filler over that? I was thinking about making a template of the ribs and use it to spread JB WELD over the 1/8" bars to get a good contour of the ribs so it would be stronger than body filler.
Getting ready to load some pics here!
edit: okay read it again...no pics from you thats cool, just didnt notice that part!
It was a huge amount of work.....but at the time I had few options. Taking a patch out of another junk board would be WAY easier.
I cut the old "U" supports off the bottom and welded small channel iron back on after I patched them.
The bar stock wasn't a perfect fit and yes, I did have to use a little mud to smooth em out.
Since I was putting bedliner on them, I didn't make them perfect.
