So i bought my truck about 2 months ago. 02 f-250, I recieved a letter today from ford saying the CPS and speed control system ( i think thats what it was called) still have not been replaced under the recall. So tomorrow im going to go in and have them replaced. I have read some people have had problems with there CPS. So far i have not had that problem. My question is what is the speed control system. And has anybody had problems with the CPS ford put in from the recall. Thanks
Some people have had issues with the recall CPS most just with failing contribution tests, and slightly rougher idle. The speed control system recall is the addition of a fuse on the brake switch circuit which was not protected originally.
It's just my opinion, but if you still have the black original, I wouldn't let them replace it, and I'd buy a couple spares from Clay. I think he still has a few left.
Make sure that when you take it in they dont touch your PCM. Some dealers will claim an update to the firmware and flash your PCM. Be very specific they don't do this. Could cause issues with your chip.
I still have the same CPS in my truck that it came with. It is an early '99 with only 33,000 miles on it. Everytime I take it to the dealer they want to do the recalls. I always tell them NO.
