ANother bad CPS?
2003 F350 7.3. Truck has 75,000 miles on it. Two years ago I changed out the gray CPS for a blue one. Got my recall notification last year and got a second recall this past month. I have not had any problems with the new CPS I installed two years ago... Decided to bring her in to the dealer so there would be a record of it and asked to have the old CPS I installed back. That was Mar 31, 2009. Ford dealer said they had to keep the "old" CPS.
Took the truck on a 1000 mile trip after changing out the oil same day as the CPS change out. Yesterday (10 Apr) the truck shuddered twice on the way home and I knew I had low fuel so thought it might be junk in the filter. Took the truck out today and filled up with fresh diesel, got to a stop sign 6 miles after filling her and 1 mile away from home and the truck died. Started back up and it shuddered the rest of the one mile home so I kept her under 25 mph. Got home and the shuddering stopped. As I backed into my garage she died. No amount of cranking got her going. I figured maybe my fuel filter sucked up some tank debris so I changed that out... old one looked good. Added some Klean to the filter cup. Still no start but she is strong on trying to start. Got out my code reader and no codes found. Rescanned and still no codes. Erased coding and rescanned, no codes...
Is it possible the ford dealers CPS was/is bad? or is it just a freak coincidence? Oil level is fine as well as everything else I have checked so far...
I'll have to have her towed back to the dealer ($$$) on Monday.
What did I miss?

Found a CPS at the local NAPA store made by Echlin (made in USA). Napa Part # CSS1103. Anyway, changed it out, turned the key and still no start. The engine turns over but no indication it wants to start...
I don't have the time to go into it so... I'm waiting for AAA to tow her to the dealer for a look-see...
I did check the fuel filter level and it was down about 1 inch from the top... I did not hear a pump but not sure since I'm half deaf anyway... at least the wife thinks so...

Yep, its gone back to the dealer... AAA took it for me. Dealer just called to confirm its there and they will look at it today and tomorrow. One nice thing about a bad economy, faster dealer service...
Yes, I get a WTS light, I get all the lights I would normally get when I turn the key but no start... SOmeone mentioned the tach... that didn't move, the oil pressure needle moved up after cranking for a few seconds...

Tach won't move on an 03 until the engine starts. That little trick won't work with your truck. Let us know what they find.

The IPR solenoid apparently had two wires which the insulation had shrunk away due to oil/fuel exposing the wires and they shorted/melted causing the truck not to start.
Replaced the IPR solenoid regulator F81Z-9C968-AB ($311.50) and a wiring pig tail 6E7Z-12A690-DA ($9.42) for a total cost of $727.92.... (Labor $407.00 included)
Good news, my extended warranty with zero deductible covered 100%.
