Speed Control Recall, Beware!

I new I should have not done it, but I did, take it to the dealer. Well, they replaced the speed sensor and now my truck is a runaway danger.

It's happened three times now. When i have it on cruise control running about 65mph and tap the brake, the cruise control does not disengage, what it does is try to speed up because it feels the truck slowing down. I have to let the brake go and then step on it again for the cruise control to disengage....VERY DANGEROUS

First, the bad CPS recall and now this. Has anybody else had this problem after doing the speed sensor swap?

First I've heard of it, but I'll admit I haven't had the recall done yet since I wanted to wait to hear what kind of stories came out of it.

What happens if you hit the cruise off button on the steering wheel?

The times I've shut off the the cruise from steering wheel I have not noticed a problem. Again, I had the recall done last week, and i've used the cruise control maybe 30 times. In three occasions it was obvious that the cruise control did not disengage when I stepped on the break. The dangerous part is that the truck actually tries to speed up.

I would bring ti back to them right away. IIRC the recall is installing a fuse in line. Something may be grounding out on the harness that they installed,

FWIW my 96 had the recall done and the cruise is wacky in it too. If I hit "coast" to try and slow my cruise speed it will speed up. Sometimes the cruise doesn't want to turn on at all, sometimes its fine. Bypass the fused harness and see what happens, that's what I'm going to do.

The fused harness they install is only about six inches to a foot long and has a holder for a blade type fuse in it. 2 amp fuse I think.

I would just remove the harness from the switch and run it the way it came from the factory to see if that solves your problem. If needed I can grab a picture of the harness I have on on my expy but not on my SD.

I know when I got my expy the fuse was blown in the harness and it would not activate?? Definately not what you are experiencing.

Also is the truck actually gaining speed? Or does it just seeme like it since you are obviously trying to slow down and its not happening.

I called dealer this morning, service writer said recall has nothing to do with the cruise control system... said problem must be something else. huh!

I am just going to remove harness.

Make sure your break lights are working. This would rule out the break switch and lights. IDK if burnt out bulbs would cause this.

This happened to me about a year ago or so.. Quite a while ago now.. Was on the thruway on cruise. Went to get off my exit and the truck said "NO"-- Hit the brakes and hit the brakes and hit the brakes. Pounded on the "off" Button. Pressed and held "coast" Nothing wanted to slow down the rig.. I just kept on motoring on the thruway trying everything i could think of except turning off the key. Luckily it was early in the morning and no traffic. It scared the crap out of me and took along time for me to use cruise in traffic again. But, The problem never came back. Never happened again. I could not repeat it. I have regained my trust in it. But still wonder what the heck happened.

Yesterday. Driving home in my jeep i realized nothing was working. radio/wipers/heater fan motor(which was why i noticed it. Cold out).. Check engine light came on and the Air bag light came on. I reached down and touched the ignition key and everything came on. Check engine light went off/air bag light went off. heater came on. Wipers started wiping.. It was weird. I think the switch is failing or something.. I wonder now if this could be the problem with our trucks? Ignition switch or a relay sticking someplace?

I just think my vehicles are haunted sometimes.
