oil pressure gauge fluctuates

Guys, just noticed earlier, my gauge will fluctuate, while holding a steady 65-70mph (driving on freeway). Could not watch it completely, but from time to time, glancing at it, noticed it, bouncing between 50-60psi. Also, at idle, after the 100mile trip, psi wat at 12-14, is this also normal. Have to do same trip tomorrow, so will see whats up, but was just try'n to get a few ideas...thanks again.

Sounds like a pressure sender... I dont like the quality of the Glow Shift senders...

Change the wire to the fuel pressure sender and see if you still get the bounce, or change the sender to the oil pressure location...

I doubt you have a oil pressure issue.

not sure chief, where the oil pressure location is. I installed the sending unit at a plug, off the oil cooler. You might be right about the "wire" causing an issue, because i noticed as well, the volt gauge, only reading 13.8-ish...i'll see what happens in the morning, otherwise, the trucks' running great.

Do they use a pressure sender that looks like this...

Or does it look like this...

If its the single wire type make sure its not loose, and make sure your not using much if any pipe dope, it needs to ground thru the sender.

first pic bro. Has 2 post, for pos and grd. I wonder if it always did it, and just now, that i caught it. Rechecked oil level, and its good. Not sure what "indication" the truck would give off, on low idle pressure or fluctuating pressure. Removed the icp plug, and all is dry, too.

Now that its river season, think it be wise to invest in a icp and ipr sensors...peace of mind.

I thought our oil pressure gauges are basically an idiot light that stays in the mid range no matter what pressure it is after it gets to 3 or 4 psi? If that is true then it might just be a bad gauge or ground?

I am assuming since he has a oil pressure gauge in his sig he is not talking about the factory one...

As well he is quoting pressure psi, not just in a range.

I could be wrong, but I dont think so.
