On the way home from church today truck started the CPS buck. Praise the Lord we made it home. Had the whole family and $400 in groceries. It threw a P0344.
Question: What is the latest on a CPS. Never did do the CPS recall or cruise recall. Is it better to get one and replace myself, or have them do the recall? Which CPS is now considered the best?
There is a new one that is gray. It is updated and they don't fail. They look a bit different. They eliminated the internal processor in the sensor (which was mainly why they went bad). I believe they are just a standard VR sensor now.

I think Clay still has some of the original cps. Some people have had problems with the gray cps. I carry a spare with me and the tools to replace it. I decided to go back to the orginal cps and keep the gray one as a spare.
International doesn't offer the black one anymore that I know of. Everyone that I replace is a gray one. I haven't seen any problems yet, but that doesn't mean there isn't any problems.
International uses a gray one for the DT engines as well. I don't know if its the same sensor (obviously the mounting bracket is clocked differently). It physically looks the same externally.
Go to Ford and get the recall done. You'll get a brand new CPS for free. If you notice your truck idling a bit rougher than it used to, or you want to pick up a spare, get another black one from Clay.
Your current one is bad. No point in keeping it, and you can't beat a free replacement. If you switch to black again later, just keep the gray one in the glovebox as a spare.
Taking truck in today for both recalls, CPS & Cruise Control. The cruise control problem is sensor related to. What problem are they having with them? Where is it located? Thanks!
Well it only took them 40 minutes. No CPS hiccups or codes thrown on the way home, and cruise control works perfect. The tech did forget to reconnect the air filter sensor, but that was it. Truck idles and runs great, and fuel mileage is the same or just a bit better. Go Ford !
