CPS Troubles?

Hey guys,

Its been a long time since I have been on FTE. I see lots of familiar names still lurking around. I hope all is well.

My truck has been running well, until last night. Had a rainy wet drive home yesterday. Twice, while in heavy stop and go traffic, when pressing the go pedal I got nothing at all. No response what so ever. Each time the problem only lasted one or two pumps of the pedal then everything went back to normal. The second time it happened the SES light flickered on very breifly.

This morning she fired right up and drove beautifully all the way to the office (no rain).

I have read about CPS/rain issues and think that is what I experienced. I have not had the recall done as of yet (despite the repeated letters from Ford) because everything has been fine up til now.

Questions- Am I barking up the right tree (CPS)? Do I take it to Ford for the recall or install the grey one that has been riding around in my glove box for the last three years? Am I better off buying a black IH CPS?

Thanks in advance.

Usually, CPS issues in a stall problem and not a dead pedal. You might be experiencing a bad throttle pedal assembly. They are a known issue. I had one replaced under warranty by the PO - according to my OASIS report.

Thanks for the reply. I'll do a search on the pedal assembly.

Can you get the codes read? If the SES light came on, there should be codes.

I agree with what Chris said.

Going to swing by DI today after lunch and see if David will read the codes.

After reading about the TPS it sounds like that is my problem. Is the Dorman sensor a suitable replacement? There appears to be some debate.

Thanks again,

Partsguy ED

When mine failed a few months ago, I ordered an entire new pedal assembly from Ed, 5 minute swap and extremely reasonably on cost.

we taking about the CPS or the TPS?

not sure what a 699-203 is

the TPS sensor is part of the pedal assy and can only be purchased as a assy

there are two different ones depending on production date so it best to send be the vin to be sure.

the CPS(black) is no longer avail and has been replaced by the grey one F7TZ12K073B there is a recall out on this also.

Sorry for not clarifying.

I was refering to the TPS. I read thru a few TPS threads that recommended a Dorman sensor rather than the entire assembly. I thought they linked to your site, but apparently not. Dorman 699-203 is the part # for the 2002 model according to the link posted.

What does an entire assembly sell for? I have a 2002.
