New here with a question

2007 6.0
past few months has been running rough till up to 180 degrees. Its been winter so i wasnt too concerned. Now its may, its still runs rough and sputters till warmed up. changed fuel filters recently they were dirty, still no change in running. Yesterday going into town its pouring white smoke. just periodacly (sp) not constant.

Any ideas? head gasket, injector? egr cooler?
Thank you
Bill

Welcome to FTE

check the FICM voltage look in tech folder
have it scanned for codes
If you dont pickup nothing there park it nose down on hill pull the EGR valve out the chamber should be dry if not egr cooler leaking

are you losing any coolant

odds are the EGR cooler bit the dust

park nose down overnight and check egr valve chamber

If it is the egr cooler you will want to change the oil cooler as well
as the oil cooler plugs and takes out the EGR cooler

When you pull the egr valve out look in the chamber it came out of
it should be dry with no signs of coolant in there

I cant tell you weather or not to deleate it depends on the emission requirments in your area and what you want there are alot of options out there

you can get a BPD egr cooler which is supposed to be less troublesome

or BPD EGR deleate its a welded cooler that looks stock

check out the market on egr options good before you decide what to do

Replace the cooler and install a coolant filter.Be sure the oil cooler is replaced with the EGR cooler.Deleting the EGR on a late 6.0 can cause more issues than it solves without proper tuning.

ok i tried removing the egr valve or so i thought, Is it held in with 2 torx head screws? If so i could not get it out but as i pry on it slightly water ran out. So im guessin my egr cooler is shot? Is this job something one can do at home or is there something extremly impossble to get done? i work on locmotives and my dad diesel big trucks for past 50 yeasr so we have plenty of space and tools.
Once replaced, what happens to all that water in the egr valve area?

Replace the oil cooler AND the EGR cooler. You should not have a problem w/ the work.

Once replaced, you should remove the glow plugs and rotate the engine by hand to get any water out of the cylinders.
