I'm still interested in acquiring one if I can find it at the right price. It must be one of the few air-suspension systems that Bryan has not personally tested though...

The Firestone R4 was designed to be set and forget at the ONE height and to make the rear suspension really supple so bumps on the back axle were not transferred into the trailer. The blurb shows a mother and daughter hitching up the float and heading off to pony club with happy horses.
The R4 Tech system does it by having weak springs to hold the back axle in the traditional way, and have the air bags to bring the truck height up to the set level. In fact this is the same way my S class Mercedes used to do it. So worst case scenario and you loose air pressure your vehicle is not sunk cause the springs will be holding it just off the bump stops - assuming you haven't got 2 tons in the back of it.

Of course Bryan wanted all that adjustable uppy downy multiple pre-set rocket-science set up which ultimately was just way too complicated to work on anything other than a show truck.

For Geoff application with the massive 5th wheeler bike transporter, depending on the bed-hitch weight, it would be worthwhile upgrading the standard R4 tech springs with some of the take-offs springs and set the truck up so that the springs are just holding the truck off the bump stops with the fifth wheeler attached. Then bring it up to height with the R4 tech bags at low to moderate pressure. That way you're not going to bounce the crap out of your trailer due to needing 120psi in the bags to achieve the required ride height.

The other nice design feature on the R4 Tech system was that they had a lower half leaf spring attached below the axle - so full uppers and lower half leaf springs - the halfs running from the axle to the front mount. This would also reduce axle wrap when taking off hard.

Geoff, you also better put the head stud sets in before you blow a head gasket if you're driving that rocket of yours hard!

Thing is the Firestone R4 Tech really was aimed at the ladies with horses so I haven't seen any of the FTE bro's 'come out' as it were and admit fitting their truck with it. You could be the 1st! And me 2nd

Not a lady and don't have horses, but do have a R4 on order.

Right on. Well Duane's sort of come out. He's the first FTE member I've seen actually posting that he's getting the Firestone R4 Tech kit.

Duane, you're the first!

Please give us some follow up on your impressions on how your truck feels empty, full and drives once the R4 Tech is fitted.

I had a bit of a look around the internet last night. Ideally I need the US 2003 F250 4x4 kit with fabricated 3" lift as I currently have 3" blocks in my truck. I need to know whether it would be OK to use the 2" kit and just have a tad more air in to get the level I require to match the front. I suspect it would be OK but don't want to chance it if I can avoid it.

Duane, can you please post a link to the thread, when you write it, here?

I don't want to look in the 6.7 forum. I'm afraid if I read too much stuff there I may end up wanting one
