I've read all the upfitter threads I could find, and of course I RTFM, but I'm having a tough time figuring out which blunt ended wires I should be hooking up to. Got an '07 F250 SD 6.0 and the manual says the 4 wires should be o/lg, o, o/y, and o/b colored for switches 1 through 4. I pulled the power block and found 2 wire bundles--1 with 10 thin (maybe 14 or 16 ga) blunt ended wires, and 1 bundle with 4 (looks like 12 ga) wires. The thin ones are wrapped with a white plastic tape color coding all the wires and there are PTO wires mostly, with none of them being the orange/lightgreen one I'm looking for to hook up to aux 1. I would also think they are way too light of a gauge to be for the upfitters.
The second group of wires, the heavier ones, aren't labeled and are white, black, blue and red with a 1/2" green stripe on the end. They are just cut off and aren't covered and sealed.
I know I shouldn't be using any of the power take off ones and have pretty much ruled out that group of 10 thin wires. The thicker ones are definitely 4 in number but are the wrong color. Both bundles are in the same wiring harness and run into the firewall, so I would think they are the pass through wires.
I've searched all over that area behind the power block and can't seem to find the correct 4 wires for the upfitters. WTF am I doing wrong here?
I'll be back outside in the truck still searching...
Any help would be appreciated. It's probably right in front of me...
Thanks, BCMan, but I'm still not finding the wires. So I checked in the back of the glove compartment where the relays are supposed to be and found nothing. Then I looked in back of the aux switches and saw that there wasn't anything plugged into the female connection in the center of the switch assembly. Any chance they added the switches but didn't put in the harnesses or relay box for them?
That would definitely explain the missing wires...
I take it this is a previously owned vehicle? Do you know if the truck originally came with the upfitters installed? Not sure why someone would add them without the harness, but I guess anything is possible. Do the switches light up with the parking lights on? I can't remember from installing mine if there was just the one plug on the back or more, but if it's just the one, and nothing else is plugged into the switches, that would explain it. Also, the relay box should be above the glove box, not behind it.
Yeah wizard, I also just checked the back of the CJBox for connector c270k, and there wasn't one. No, none of the switches light up with the parking lights, and there is definitely no relay/fuse box above the glove compartment. I wonder what it would cost me to get the harness and relay/fuse box, since I already have the switches. I did buy it used a year ago, it was under warranty and I have an extended warranty until 2015, so I should check to see if this would be covered by Ford.
Hey, at least I don't feel like a complete idiot for not finding the wires...hehehe...
and thanks for the replies, guys.
Thanks bpounds, but my truck didn't have a harness with relay box, just the switches. I just ordered the harness/relay from Ford today and will put it in when it comes in. The Ford guy said he's heard of trucks coming from the factory with the switches and no harness...
Ah well, another few bucks into the beast...
The switch assembly pulls out easily. You might want to pop it out and see if there is any wiring harness on the back side. You've probably already looked.
Yeah, that also crossed my feeble mind a bit too late...but hey, I'm helping out Ford, one of the only companies (maybe the only major) to not take part in the gov't bailout. Plus it wasn't too bad of a hit, about $100. Thanks for the reminder about 'previously owned' auto parts--they've saved my *** plenty of times.
