EOT gauge question
I think I've got it!
Locate sender in coldest part of oil system.
Warm up entire oil system so improperly located sender reads higher temperatures.
Insulation warms up entire oil system, so now OEM sender hooked to engine computer reads higher temps.
Sounds great!

I guess I just don't believe that the oil cooler lowers the temperature that much. If you look at the oil and coolant flow diagrams it shows that the oil cooler is right before the oil filter and that the coolant going to the oil cooler comes out of the crankcase to the cooler. Now, I can't tell where in the flow path the factory ECT sensor is, but my Insight used to read about the same thing as what my analog reads now. That being said, I'd be inclined to think that the ECT is going to be about 180*. I can't see how the oil cooler can make the oil any cooler than that, especially when oil temps were always higher than coolant temps when I had the Insight. If adding an aluminum filter cap can make the oil 160* instead of 180* then FoMoCo should have used them from the factory. BTW, I checked the temp of some oil right after shutdown while at full operating temp (Fumoto valve is great), read 185*.
An aluminum oil cap doesn't lower oil temperatures 20F. A sender screwed into an aluminum oil cap reads lower temps because it is located in a cooler portion of the oil flow than the OEM sender.
I don't care what you believe, but the ECU "believes" the data from the factory oil sender and manages engine operations accordingly.

And here we go again...I know what the ECU looks at, I know where the temp is taken, and I know that reading is what OBDII plug in gauges do. These things were never in question...the question was what were other folks running the same set up as me seeing...that's it, nothing more. So, unless you can tell me what your sender that is installed in the oil filter cap is reading, oh wait, you don't have one...so please, you're

Don't be a cheapy like I was to save a few bucks.... you WILL end up running with a higher than 15* oil vs coolant temps if the coolers start to plug. You'll know when you blow coolant all over the engine compartment!
