Oil temp gauge

Going to order a Dieselsite coolant filter so that I don't have an oil cooler failure. After reading that there should be only about 15 degrees difference between EOT & ECT, I want to add a EOT gauge. When you change the oil with a billet oil fiter cap, is there any problem when removing the cap with the EOT probe & wire installed. I looked at the stock oil temp sender and it looks too tight to put in a tee. Thanks in advance for any comments.

The hands down easiest way to get all this info is with an Edge Insight or DashDaq systems monitor. Plugs into the OBD2 port and reads the factory sensors. It will read EGT with the optional probe. Sorry, fuel pressure will need a gauge.

As to the issue with the sending unit on the billet cap, I had also put in disconnects(I'm sure that's not the correct term for this application though) and I just disconnect the two wires and unscrew the cap. So you would end up with 2 ring terminals that attach to the sending unit, 2 female disconnects, and 2 male. A little more effort on the front end, but a whole let less effort at oil change time.

Check out my gallery I have a picture of the billet cap and sender in there somewhere. No hassle at all when changing the oil... just like Tex said.

$84 at the dealer for a road test verified I'm good with 123k on the motor. Now I have to get a gauge that will read the EOT correctly.

Thanks guys for the help. Will order a billet oil filter cap & gauge also. Info you can get on this site has helped me many times. This will give this 70 year old something to do before fishing season.

Those of you that have installed the billet oil filter cap for oil temps, do you find that the oil temp in winter never really gets up to what it does in summer....IF it even comes up at all. I tapped my original cap to do this (had a spare new one just in case) and I find in cold weather ( 35* or below) I'm lucky to see it even MOVE! I did have to put a short stand pipe in the oil cap so my probe wouldn't hit the spring on the inside. Guess it's probable that that's the reason. The stand pipe is acting like a cooler.

The oil temp is consistent with the water temp all year round. I run around 190 -195 in the winter months here in Las Vegas and 200+ in the summer months. Oil temp is always a couple of degrees below coolant when driving normal. I have seen your setup... I highly recommend the billet cap, you will not be disappointed.

EOT should actually be higher then ECT.

When I tow it's higher, if I drive it like I stole it its higher (only by a few degrees) but just driving around town or the freeway, being light on the "diesel pedal" the EOT is a couple of degree's lower. It would be interesting to see the difference in temp readings plugging into the ODBII connector with another gauge.

That is strange. Where are you pulling your temps from? The only time I've seen EOT lower then ECT is when everything was getting up to operating temperature, after that EOT has always been higher. Only thing that I can think of is where you have the probe at compared to mine, that would be for both EOT and ECT.

EOT probe is in the Aluminum Billet oil filter cap and the ECT probe is in the side of the engine block (the normal spot).

It must be for the fact that you have an aluminum billet cap, whereis I just have the stock cap. About the only thing I can figure(assuming that both your gauges and both of mine are working properly).
