well, I fired it up again last night to double check things on it, and some of the wiring must have been partially shorted out, because it started smoking from the wrong place. This helped make my decision about parting it out. I don't know yet if it ruined any of the parts, but it certainly didn't help anything. Now it throws a fault and trips the breaker.
I got the whole grill disassembled last night. This weekend I will transfer over the good parts to my grill, and store the rest of the parts for spares. My hands looked like I had rebuilt an old engine or transmission when I was done. my hands and arms were black up to my elbows.
On Saturday I disassembled my GMG and cleaned and swapped out my grill parts, then fired it up. Its amazing what a few properly placed pieces, and straightened out metal that wasn't horribly warped and disfigured makes when it comes to even heat distribution. Used to be that 70 percent of the heat all came from one end of it.
Got the interior gutted on my 1949 F1 I bought recently.
Next will be to pull the engine and transmission, all wiring and lights....then push it onto the car trailer and leave it sit there until January when I haul it to the body shop for a massive body and paint restore.
Nice, there is a beautiful one that drives through the lake campground we camp at.
I put an old grill up for sale locally this weekend, and three people came yesterday to pick it up in a small car. We had to disassemble it to get it in the car. I felt really bad I didn't offer to haul it to their house for them in my truck, because it was going to make a huge mess in their car. I couldn't offer to spend too much on delivering it, because I only asked 10 dollars for it, including two propane tanks.
What was really nice, was the guy sent me a message this morning, saying he really appreciated the help, and how much he liked the grill, saying it was the nicest grill he had ever had, and that he was going to put it to good use. That grill was nearly 15 years old, but it was stainless steel, so it was likely going to live another 15 years without any problems.
I've been catching up on house projects since we got back in Manhattan. Sometime while we were gone a piece of guttering blew away, we had a small leak around the chimney on the roof and lots of dead bugs in the basement. I've gotten those things about taken care of so I can start on some yard work. It is amazing how much brush can grow during two months with lots of rain.
I cleaned the garage for several hours Sunday night-- haven't gotten home till today-- Yeah Work! Been in Pitts burg and Parsons for a couple days. Can't believe its thursday already.
I helped Tony bleed the brakes on his Jeep last night. His brakes are still funky. I think there is air in the ABS system. Its my understanding that a computer has to be hooked up to the ABS system to flush the air out of it. Silly Jeeps.
Not silly jeep-- but NEW JEEP--- I have heard of that with other vehicles too-- all newer,
I am getting parts thought out to fix up my daughters go cart-- I should get it done just in time to put it away for winter :-) If I ever get the exploder done!
Not with plastic wheels. Gonna need to put some cleats on it.
Isabelle got a guitar for her birthday, and I have always wanted a guitar, but didn't want to take over her birthday gift, so I wandered over to a pawn shop and asked around about a few. I picked one up for 50 bucks and they threw in a case, strap, and some picks. I asked twice if it was a left handed guitar, but he said nope! its a right handed. I have since determined that he was just blowing smoke, but that is fine. There are just a few minor changes between the two. I practiced a good portion of the weekend, and have learned the intro to a Metallica song and a very small part of a Nirvana song, by accident.
Isabelle says she has learned part of "My heart will go on" but I haven't determined which part yet. She was busy most of the weekend, so didn't have time to practice.
Practicing the guitar relaxes me, unfortunately that means that all of the rest of my projects are being ignored. However I did buy a dryer vent tube cleaning brush and about 30 feet of extensions and started cleaning out the dryer vent. I haven't finished it, because when I first started I only had about 20 feet of it which only got it about 1/2 way. Its amazing we didn't have a fire, because we did have about three small bucket loads of link that came out of there, and I hadn't even gotten to the center of the house yet. With this new brush I should be able to clean it out monthly, or annually. I think it may have been a wise investment. I wish I had one of these 5 or 6 years ago.
I changed my dryer vent tube to smooth except just for the very end-- it made a huge difference-- now I have to clean 4 feet instead of 20-30 :-) it just doesn't stick :-)
