Do you folks not HEAR the truck start before it dies?
Have you ever had a truck with bad glow plugs or a bad glow plug relay?
I'm gonna check the gp's and the relay today to rule it out and if there is a prob with them it may make any other probs seem worse. I also want to check the ohms on the injectors when I'm in there.
How close are you to New Orleans? I'll help you out if you like. The only catch is I am here at the convention center downtown and I don't have a vehicle so you would need to come here. But, there is plenty of overhead cover in the hotel parking garage here.
Lake Charles. A lil bit further than a skip and a jump away but thanks for the offer! Do you live there?
Yeah, you are about 200 miles away IIRC. Used to go through Lake Charles on my way to Florida when we live in San Antonio. No I don't live here - we live in South Dakota, just here for a conference.
I finally got my cold start vid uploaded... BTW, is my EOT sensor bad?? It never goes below 50ish. It was NOT plugged in and sat out in the 10-20 deg temps all night. I haven't driven it in days. Trans and intake temps were about right, but my EOT clearly says 50 when it's definitely not.

Yep, I HEAR the truck starting.. Sounds like mine did on occasion before I changed my GPR last winter..Its would sputter & then stall... I went thru a few times like that at work because I work 12 & sometimes 16 hour shifts & have no way to plug it in. My truck has been starting good ever since I installed the new GPR.
When my glow plugs are working.. my lights dim & its noticeable. If I cycled my GP's and cranked my truck as many times as he did in the 6 minute video I'd be getting out the jumper cables or battery charger. I'm no certified mechanic, so I could be way off but if the GPR was weak or all of the GP's weren't working, isn't it possible that the cylinders just can't get warm enough to keep the motor running? When he plugs the truck in & the block is kept warm & the truck fires right up.
i heard the you can get "cold cylinders" where it is not hot enough to keep burning. the starter heats up the cylinders but it takes a couple of tries to get the hot enough to keep running. some of the gp may work and get the motor to start but not run?
Well guys I'm thinking there's more to it than what I thought!

The part I found strange was I went ahead and tested the injectors for kicks. Passenger side showed 3.3 3.3 3.1 3.3 .
Drivers side showed 4.7 3.8 4.9 4.1 .
So now what do you think? I know I have one bad gp but it looks like all the injectors on the ds might be bad. Odd. So I decided to pull the valve cover to check the plug in. It was in there good so I went ahead and did the .25 cent mod. Haha. I rechecked them after I added the quar thinking maybe something was loose but they tested the same. So then I decide to start it with the valve cover off. Now this was with the truck only running about a minute from checking the gpr. So I started it with the valve cover off to see how the oil was squirting and it was coming out of all of them about the same and it seemed like that was ok. So where do I go from here are my injectors bad? It looks like now I may have evidence to prove that!
The harness/vc gasket on the drivers side might be bad or corroded connection. I would test them directly at the injector. If you still have the valve cover off I would look at the oil discharge in the morning when it's cold. You can replace the injector solenoids separately w/o removing the injector if needed.
I tend to think that something is amiss with the DS wiring. It just dont seem like if 4 are gonna go bad that they would all be on the same side. Ohm them all again under the cover. Pull the wires off the connectors and ohm them direct to the contacts. The one open GP on that side also leads me into my thinking. Something just aint right on that left side.
I just read the responses and wish I'd of seen them sooner. I just finished putting it all back together but I did check the injectors on the ds again and they were all testing at 4.2 exactly all 4 were the same. When I drove it out the shop it sounded and drove the same as before so I'm clueless.
