Hi there Pete:

The best guess the guys over there had was that:
  1. The corporate recruiter was coming down with Alzheimer and mistakenly recruited me.
  2. The initial corporate paperwork review (if any) didn't catch that I was honest about my lack of specific experience.
  3. I was a body to fill a vacancy and that meant that the company got its stipend from the government, and the state-side management that I reported to didn't seem to care otherwise.

The manager over there was a Christian too, when I arrived he said that it appeared that I was set up to fail but he wasn't going to throw me under the bus.

The manager over there said that there is a fit for everyone and that he would keep me as long as he could.

The manager over there didn't think very highly of the company and, had it not been that he had given his word to stay, he would have quit already.

So, once they got more qualified people, they rotated me home early.

I kept my employee Ids, and my body armor was placed in storage in Afghanistan pending my return. Versus me returning to Camp Pendleton to turn my gear back in to the Marines.

When it came time to rotate back over to Afghanistan, seemed there was a black hole.

Eventually, two weeks past due to be back in country the VP contacts me to say he thought I was terminated coincident with leaving Afghanistan.

So effective Dec. 26 I was terminated.

Now, one could say that the company held onto me over my off cycle (which is a no-pay period) as insurance just in case they again needed a 'body' back in Afghanistan.

Shortly before I got the heads up that I was leaving Afghanistan, the corporation was chopping heads state-side.

I went home and 'played' stupid, I put in for the two days I worked that pay-week before flying home, plus the holiday later that pay-week. I got the holiday pay which meant that I was still an employee at that point.

So, if there was the order to terminate me as I was leaving Afghanistan then either:
The state-side person directed to carry that out had already been terminated and just walked away from it, his replacement then knew nothing of it.

- Or -

The manager in Afghanistan, ignored the order and left it for state-side to deal with.
It wasn't until I started sending in time sheets for 'on' cycle wages due, mentioning that corporate travel still had yet to deploy me, that I came up on their 'priority' list of things to attend to.
