Don't know if y'all saw my other thread, but I got my situation fixed. Turned out that it was just a disconnected fitting on the floor/panel damper motor. Slipped the tubing back into place and I have heat on the floor again.

If you're gettign air out of the front panel and defrost vents, it has to be a leak in the loop around the floor/panel damper.

It could be any or some of the following:

- leaking switch/switch connections
- leaking/loose (or maybe even pinched) yellow or white tubing
- leaking fitting at the damper motor (where mine was, essentially)
- leaking (cracked) damper motor body
- leaking diaphragm in the damper motor
- loose/disconnected linkage between the damper motor and the damper...

... if you look over the schematic that Robin provided in Post #47, any problems anywhere else would cause you to lose vacuum/function of either your defrost or panel vents. It was that narrowing down process which made me stop trying to chase the entire vacuum system and focus on the only places where the problem could be.

Glad it was an easy fix. Warm footsies now.

Perseverance paid off. Just think how much you saved fixin' it yourself.

That is usually as simple as spraying all the door locks down good with WD40 to clean the gunk off the switchs.

One of the things that helped me out as I traced the leak was keeping a quiet environment and putting my ear up to connections. I took apart my dash so I could remove the heater control unit and then I listened right there to see if I could hear air leaking by (since all of the lines come together right there. Once I identified that air was leaking through there I was able to start chasing things by pulling subsequent lines and then listening at the control unit to see if the air was still going past. After chasing three of four options I identified the culprit.

On a separate note I found a post about the door ajar sensor and was able to fix it with a touch of WD-40.

Edit: Damn, by the time I wrote my post the answer was already there!

Hey john, if you suspect a vacuum leak, I'll tell you the easiest way I have found to find it. Since a vacuum leak is hard to find, an air pressure leak is the easy way. Take an air compressor, regulate it down to about 10lbs of air and rig up a fitting with whatever you have to the vacuum tank. Just remove the line that goes to the pump and hook it up there. Pressurize the tank and lines, if you can't hear it leaking somewhere, you can take a spray bottle with soap and find one that way, unless its the oring in the hubs.

Hope that may help you or save you a little time anyways lol.

Goodluck John, it's best to start with the simplest things first like fuses etc and all the others have said and work your way to the harder more time consuming things. Let us know what you find!

Thanks for this diagram Payson...it's been a big help. Other responses have helped pin point part of the problem.

I'm having a similar problem after replacing the cabin fan motor and regulator. I must have knicked a vacuum line as the vent selector switch does nothing now. One addtitional problem I have is there is very little volume of air coming through even with the fan on high. Motor is spooling up fine....just not much coming out the vents. Does that still point to a vacuum leak?

My truck an early '99 and has manual hubs.

I havent had a lot of time to figure out where my vacuum leak is. I put warn hubs on the truck not to long ago so I was thiking if i could just eliminate the vacuum line running to the hubs all together, any thoughts?

Fixed the vacuum leak in my truck. Selector switch now works fine. I'm still having a low volume of air come through the vents though. Just changed the the fan motor and fan speed controller since the lower two fan speeds weren't working. Do you guys have any ideas on what could be casuing the lack of flow? It sounds like the fan spools up fine, but there's leak/rushing noise behind the glove box.
