I dnt really know but I'm just throughing something out there.... I wonder if it could be the syllonid(I know that's not spelled right but u understand)
Are any of you guys thinking it might be battery cables? We chased a starting problem on my superduty new batteries starter alternator and it turned out to be the battery cables. They looked ok but corrosion got in behind the insulation. Have you checked voltage at the starter while cranking? The problem is cables are epensive unless you make your own out of welding cables.
Is there any switches ( neutral) on a 5 speed that could be causing this? Could this be electrical in the Clutch/Tranny area?...just throwing that out there....
no i bought this truck for cheap thinking it would be a pretty simple fix and i would have a cheap tow rig for my rock crawlers. so found this one, the guy said it had a fuel leak and needed a starter. he was parking it on a hill and rolling to get it started not sure how long he did it for but. i heard it run, watched him do it and drove it home 20 miles or so figured easy fix right. well i fixed the fuel leak easy enough and put in a new starter. along with everything else is stated above (glow plug, glow plug relay batteries, oil, but have never got it to run since. (about 2 months)
brand new batteries
I've read, and re-read this post...trying to find something obvious.....
The picture I get in my head is it turns over real slow, like dead batteries. That what you guys get out of this?
That's exactly what mine did. New batteries wouldn't spin fast enough new starter no change put in new cables fired right up. Would it be possible to hook a jumper cable to the battery and to the starter or relay?
I'd try to rig something up on the passenger side battery, not worrying about the other one. If one new one with known good cables is hooked it should tell us if that is the problem. Good thinkin on checking the batt cables Justin.
True...thats a possibility, that the Battery cables are corroded within the insulation....That huge OEM connector was so corroded / gone, on mine I made a new harness for both batteries from welding cable also...
being this is a 5-speed, and I have and auto....is there anything in the clutch / tranny area, like a switch that could cause this?....just throwing this out there...

Thanks for the nice pic Rocky...I just can't get my head around this why the engine will fire by Jump/Pull starting and nothing with a new starter.....
looks identical to my 97 5 speed, just jump two wires for the neutral safety switch and that bypasses the system. Also see if there are good battery ground cables from the engine, a simple fix.
The consensus here is to get the DP gear drive starter, uses almost half the amps the factory does. And these days as most auto parts are made new in china or japan and cheap quality. The DP starters are the same although the design is much better and more simple.
