Hopefully not , but I was thinking compression ..May be a junk starter ...
well i hope its not an compression issue. ill check the fuel bowl harness for 12v and the ipr for 12 v if it checks out ill pull start it. Im really hoping it is the ipr stuck but if it was stuck i wouldnt have high pressure oil if i pull started it so it wouldnt run then either right?
well replaced the cps thought well was hoping it would fix her right up but no now i dont even get a rpm reading when cranking didnt test the wiring but it is very well covered in diesel from when the guy was running it with a fuel leak maybe its just the harness. going to check
Update well it still will not start i have checked all the wiring harness all seems to check out ok. I will pull start and sounds decent when running so my last question is if it is a compression issue how do i go about testing that. and secondly could i have heard that some times something on the belt will freeze up and create alot of drag which slows the motor while cranking with the key. (already fried one starter) so has anyone heard of this happining? these are my last to options i think unless anyone has any more info
To test compression you need a diesel compression tester which aren't cheap and you take out a glow plug too test each cylinder but I would think if it was a compression issue it wouldn't start by dumping the clutch either and if it was that low that would mean the rings were shot head gasket was bad or cylinder was scored and it would be running bad and burning oil. You could take the belt off and spin the pulleys by hand see if they're free. Have you checked battery cables and grounds? Maybe the starter relay is weak and not sending full juice to the starter? IIRC you need 10.5v to fire the idm while cranking. I would plug it in and with it at 60° outside you might not even need the glow plugs to fire so maybe try disconnecting the gpr so full power is going to the starter. Just throwing guesses out there. Pretty much everything has been covered already...
^^^..take belt off and see if ALL pulley's spin free...I once had a alternator freeze up solid and would not let the gasser spin over....
Also, open question to all, Glow Plug changed out, would any oil that worked it's way into the cylinder(s) cause a "lock up"? askin' just don't know...
Shouldn't get much oil in the cylinders with just a glow plug change. If one of the pulley's are that bad you'd think you'd hear it. Better check them though. Does it try to turn over at all or just click?
I have been keeping up with this thread its got some good info. Just wanted to wish you luck and I hope that the ol girl gets running for you. With all the input from these experts I'd say you'll get it going.
