I have 96 f350 7.3 I recently got about 2 months ago. when i got it it needed a starter so would not start when I bought it but the guy i got it from would park it on a hill roll it down and drop the clucth to start it. so i drove it home sounded fine had good power slammed in a starter tried to start it and nothing. since then ive done glow plugs, glow plug relay, battries, new pig tails on the valve cover gasket, fuel filter, ive checked oil level all fuses are good. I get a wait to start light, then crank it and my rpms bounce from around 100 to 400 it almost sounds like it wants to start. i get a small amount of white smoke coming out of the exhust. ive shot it with starter fluid rpms went to about 1500 then nothing. does anyone have any ideas what else i can try? ive searched and searched and done all of the basic no start proceds. any help would be great thanks.
Have you checked the oil level in the HPOP reservoir? It's the allen head plug on the front of the motor. Should be within 1" or so of the top of the reservoir.
Be careful with the ether... if the glow plugs catch a whiff of that stuff you're not going to be happy with the results.
Welcome to FTE. Firstly, I'd stop with the starter fluid, that's not gonna help you out in the long run. Have you checked your cranking amps? Is there anything modded on the engine that you are aware of? Do you know if you are receiving good fuel pressure? Was the truck sitting for a while? Please provide us with a little more information, and I'm sure we can get you rolling again.
I have checked the oil in the hpop its about 3/16 of an inch to the top. we only tried the ether once. just as a last ditch try to get it going. its been sitting for about 2 months now. cranking amps start out at 12 then go to 10, 10.5 thats with another truck jumped to it. no mods bone stock. i dont have a gage to test fuel pressure but i cracked the back line on the driver side that goes in the the back of the head and it sprayed good when we cranked it.
Cracking that fuel line loose may have got some air in the system and could be contributing to the problem, but only slightly.
Try unplugging the ICP sensor on the front of the driver's side head and see if it will fire.

I will try that right now give me 5 and ill post back
Hmmm. How long are you cranking on it? It sounds like the injectors are firing and the usual problems have already been checked. Is it turning over fast, or is it pretty slow?
its 60s out there had it pluged in for 2 hours or so cranks about 500 rpm then seems to act like it wants to fire then gos back down to 300 or so then back to about 500 then seems like it wants to fire up then nothing. crank it for a good 10 sec then wait and try it again

I know you said you put a new one on it , but clamp a jumper cable clamp on the two large posts of the GPR ...
