Question Best place for Pyro install location ?

Just purchased 2 pyrometers to install in each exhaust manifold. Engine is out so not exactly sure where the best place is to install (top/bottom) how far from the end of the manifold

Anyone have any images or links they could forward ? Having trouble finding pics of 6.0 installs.

You only need one in the rear of the driver's side exhaust manifold.

I want to go with two just to be able to compare both banks. Too many stories about guys having injector issues and causing a melt down, including myself. New motor, not taking any chances.

Just need to know if its best on the top side or underside for clearance ?

I put mine on the driver side. I used a drill, I took off my tire and just found a flat spot in the manifold and drilled the hole. worked good for me. Look at edge's web site. they have some pics there.http://www.edgeproducts.com/product_...manual-216.pdf Look to the end there is some info there. page 13

Thats a great pic of the passenger side. Thank-you.

Did you put the pyro in the same location on the Drivers Side ?

When I installed mine I slid under the truck behind the drivers side front wheel and drilled straight up, just before the elbow, using a dry bit, no grease. Start with a small bit and work up to the final size. Don't push too hard and the chips will be small and fall back into your face, wear goggles!

If you look at the manifolds you should see somewhat of a flat spot on each. They should be twords the bottom and back... As if the motor was installed. This seemed to work well for me and there was enough meat in that location to get some good threads started with a tap and di set.

Good luck! I would be interested to know if/what the readings diff. are.

The Y-pipe is sheet metal, and not easy to get to, and I can't think of any reason to put the sensor there. So my guess is no one here has done it. Any particular reason you want to?

Some guys do put them post-turbo on the down pipe.

The exhaust manifold has the benefit of being easy to get tapped without disassembly, and sees the gasses at the hottest point possible without going into the head.

I guess if you really wanted to do the Y-pipe, you could go with a clamp on sensor. Would not be my preference.

I was just thinking that putting it at the y-pipe would eliminate the need to put a pyro on each exhaust manifold. I would also prefer to put the pyro before the turbo. It wouldn't be too hard to weld a boss onto the y pipe for more thread engagement either if you had most of it apart for egr delete or head-studs... just a thought
