I recently had this exact problem. The window would slowly stop 3/4 of the way down unless I forced it down. Turns out that there is a clip on the track that came off. It was pinching the window so it would stop since the clip pressed the entire track inward. This is worth taking a look at before you goop up your tracks, that is the last thing I wanted to do. I must have hit a bump that knocked it loose, don't know how it happened. Here is what I did:
1. Remove door panel.
2. Remove the 10mm bolt bolting the bottom of the track in, should be in the bottom left of the door.
3. I took my door handle off so I could see what was happening, there are two nuts for that, one is behind the rubber grommet in the door jamb.
4. I saw that there was a clip in the lower track support that was inside the upper track support (through the door handle hole).
5. I pulled down on the track support, stretching it out and forced the clip to the outside. You really have to pull, this is what bewildered me how it happened in the first place.
6. Bolt it all back up and hopefully that fixes your problem! Mine was the rear track, but yours could just as likely be the front, so check that one too.
i will keep the greese in the fryingpan tell icheck that out first!

Thanks for the tip on this. This is EXACTLY what the problem was on my 2000 F150. I had taken the door apart a couple of times and had not spotted the problem until you metioned the Clip on the track support.
Great catch! My windows now work again!

F350, 2001, Super Duty. Power window on the drivers side front stops about 3/4 of the way down. I have to keep hitting the button down until it is all the way down. I can also apply pressure as it is going down and that will help it get all the way down. It goes back up quickly, works perfectly going up. I greased everything I could find in there. Is it the regulator, motor, switch, any advice would be appreciated.
Had that happen on my 2000 SD and I fixed it, traded it in on my new one..

Your solution was the only one I could find that made sense, most others recommended replacing the whole window mechanism.
I used a screwdriver to help open the clip and get it back in place where it belongs. When I replaced the passenger side door lock actuator, I was careful to not pull on the window guide so much. The clip stayed in place and the passenger door job went a heck-ov-a-lot easier. View of driver side window guide and notorious "clip" Closeup of clip and you can see that it is out of place. Needs to be behind that right-angle bracket.
