Power Window Stops?

F350, 2001, Super Duty. Power window on the drivers side front stops about 3/4 of the way down. I have to keep hitting the button down until it is all the way down. I can also apply pressure as it is going down and that will help it get all the way down. It goes back up quickly, works perfectly going up. I greased everything I could find in there. Is it the regulator, motor, switch, any advice would be appreciated.

I'll be interested if anyone has figured out what causes this. My drivers side window was doing the same thing a few months ago, it seems fine now. I'm thinking it was the switch or had to do with the autodown relay or whatever controls that function. Like you, I'm sure there is nothing wrong with the motor or the window mechanically since it goes down fine while holding the switch.

BTW, welcome to FTE. I strongly suggest sticking around after you figure this out. In the few months I've been a member I've learned a wealth of information.

Power window stops going down

I don't think its the switch, cause its not the switch I'm holding down while its going down. Its the window glass itself. If you push down on the window hard it will go all the way down without stopping, while holding down the switch also. Its almost like something is binding? It will go up fast, its just the down part that won't work all the way.

I thought you were referring to the auto-down tripping off too early. Mine acted it was being too sensetive, sensing the extra current required to go down (even though it was going down fine) and tripped off the auto-down too early thinking the window was already down to the stop.

I haven't been inside my door yet to investigate, but it sounds like you may have a different problem than I do. At least my responses bumped you back to the top. Good luck!

I think if you lube your window tracks you'll see a huge difference. My driver side was doing the same thing. I rubbed in some silicone gel I had, just using my pinkie as far as I could reach and the window flies up and down now.

I tried some silicone spray but it really had no effect. I had the silicone gel on hand from some wire pull jobs and thought I'd give it a try. It took all of 1 minute to cure the problem. It's been maybe 8 months now and I noticed it was a bit slower on the lower quarter going down. It was 15 outside so maybe that was it, but even if you do it twice a year its no biggie.

white lithium spray grease lasts longer or silicon spray.

Helping the window along sounds like possibly something is catching the regulator but if its all checked out and lubed then your window motor might be sticking, or starting to fail.
Its doing it at the same place each time?

It just might... but I don't think I'd let my dog ride with his head out the window after that. I'm jus sayin...

Odor

You won't like the odor of the bacon grease. White lithium grease works well and is easy to apply from a spray can. Use the little red tube on the can for better control.

I recently had this exact problem. The window would slowly stop 3/4 of the way down unless I forced it down. Turns out that there is a clip on the track that came off. It was pinching the window so it would stop since the clip pressed the entire track inward. This is worth taking a look at before you goop up your tracks, that is the last thing I wanted to do. I must have hit a bump that knocked it loose, don't know how it happened. Here is what I did:

1. Remove door panel.
2. Remove the 10mm bolt bolting the bottom of the track in, should be in the bottom left of the door.
3. I took my door handle off so I could see what was happening, there are two nuts for that, one is behind the rubber grommet in the door jamb.
4. I saw that there was a clip in the lower track support that was inside the upper track support (through the door handle hole).
5. I pulled down on the track support, stretching it out and forced the clip to the outside. You really have to pull, this is what bewildered me how it happened in the first place.
6. Bolt it all back up and hopefully that fixes your problem! Mine was the rear track, but yours could just as likely be the front, so check that one too.

Thanks

thanks a lot, I'll give that a try and let you know. That sounds likely cause I already greased it up and that didn't help. I can hear it creaking and binding when it stops.
