Old girl must have heard she was getting weather stripping- not a stripping needless to say- drivers side power window did the feeze in the up position
I think I remember a post to "unstuck" it if that's what it is;?
What I've done to get the power window working.
1. pulled toggle switch and flipped with passenger side, driver's side DS switch works on passenger side (PS)
2. checked for power to the connection box where DS switch goes- got a spark
3. had replaced the window motor (new) 2 years ago.
4. disconnected.reconnected battery
5.
my front windows also tend to freeze up from time to time and the cause has been that when i put the window all the way up it would go under a bind, jump a tooth and be it too much of a bind to move,
the only way i found to fix it is to unbolt the window motor and reset it where it isnt in a bind
Punch the door. No seriously, punch it while depressing the switch. Needless to say this wont work in all cases but when window motors get old sometimes certian windings will go open or have a poor contact area at the brush. Actually, i currently have a left side motor that will freeze in the up position on occasion. Most of the time it happens while driving and i cant reach the door so i throw whatever i have really hard at the door panel while pressing the down button. Fyi, you could also have a motor that has totally failed where as any persuading will not help.
When you push the down button, do you see the volt gauge move.....if so, then there is power to it and it is most likely "jammed" as Beasty suggested. This happens off an on to me ( in the down position, when someone new gets in the Bronco ), and I have to take off the door panel and loosen the bolts holding the motor to the door while pushing the switch.
pull out the window motor and test it or have someone test it for you. easiest thing in the world to do if you're familiar with electric motors. Good Luck!
Take the panel off and find the plug that goes to the motor. It should be two wires. Use some source of 12V power and a couple of little pieces of wire and put power to one wire and ground to the other. (A jumper battery works real good for this.) If nothing happens, switch the power and ground in case you have it oriented to put the window up. If nothing still happens, you have a bad motor.
I know it sounds a little off...but one thing to remember is that the passenger side is the "master" side for the window and door lock circuits. For my prob of both locks and windows not working, (seperate times), I started at the passenger side with a wiring schematic and started tracing the power. I found that there was a wire broken on the drivers side both times.
Well,
First Tom: I have 96XLT, I think I have or had a gallery
BB69- I didn't know about the "master" maybe all the door slammin by my buddies jinxed the wires
Now, Joboo- although the punch didn't work- as I entered the rig after work thinking about the motor pull, closed the door fired her up and .. yep, rolled down the window.
So, I have to decide if I want to still pull motor and check connections or if it was a "stick up " job. This was weird. How could I have all those negative symptoms at noon and by 5pm start her up and instinctively roll down the window...
