Remote Starter

Hey guys, I'm sure this question comes up a lot, but I'm considering putting a remote starter on my '96 7.3 psd. Will all remote starters work on a diesel or not because of the whole glow plug thing? Has anyone had good or bad experience with any particular brand or model? What would you recommend? Thanks

If you truck is a hard starter then a remote starter is really not for you. If the engine doesn't start that it will retry 1-2 times depending on the unit. There is also a delay setting in the beginning to allow the glow plugs to cycle.

I have a remote on a gasser but I personally would not consider it for my PSD. JMHO>

I do not have any personal expierence but I too would like to have a remote start. The one I am looking at is the Viper5901 or 5902. I have a good friend who swears by there product.

I've got two ford keyless / remote start systems in boxes and both have the option for 30 second ( or 60 can't remember ) delay for diesels. I'm trying to get around to installing them this winter.

I don't see any issue with using them. You just have to read the wiring diagram 1,2,3 times and make sure you get the wiring correct.

are those still sold by ford? That seems like the great way to start the truck without being in the truck

Does anyone know of a system that can use 1 remote for 2 vehicles. I would like on my truck and wifes van but I don't want to carry more than 1 fob.

Talking

TJ:
Check with a local dealer. They should know of a unit that will do that or...........a remote that can be programed for two (2) different frequencies.

Think it's 4 fobs limit. But the ford aftermarket remote starts remote won't work with factory keyless
