Question Remote Starters?

Recently bought an 07 F150 and I'm wondering if the Ready Remote series of remote starters will work or will there be limited functionality?

ive always been a fan of aftermarket units.... i have, and love my crimestopper unit. i personally hate alarms, but love the features of remote starters/keyless entries..... i can even roll my windows up with the "trunk pop button". and, the aftermarket are really cheap to buy, and install yourself.

I personally like the Ford starters. I know too many people that have had issues with aftermarkets on the newer vehicles equipped with PATS. I have had my remote from Day 1. Almost 4 years and not a single problem. Like Matt, I hate the alarms, but like the features..

this brings up a good point.... many people have had problems with PATS.... but they are very simple to get around. if you get a good unit, then they dont require an extra key, but instead will program just like a spare key. ive used a few of these now, and they work great.

While I like to go stock/ford add-on products when possible, when it comes to remote starters/alarms the aftermarket units have the best features. My UNGO (Clarion, but made by DEI) has extended range, aux channels, tells me the cabin temp of my truck and does everything the stock unit does. And it's just as easy or hard to install (are you a glass is half full or empty person?) as the Ford units. The installation of aftermarket units is the same as the one's Ford sells. When I bought and installed mine I used the Ford Remote Starter instructions to put it in and it was somewhat straight forward.

As far as extra channels, My Lariat doesn't have the sliding rear window or sunroof, but if it did that and the windows is what I would probably assign to the extra channels.

i assigned my trunk pop button to a window roll up module. so, just one press on it, and all 4 windows will roll up. pretty nice for those oh so sudden rain storms.

one more thing to think about if using aftermarket..... you will lose your ford features for "perimeter lighting", and the unlocking sequence (1 press-drivers door, 2 presses- all doors). to get around this, there are modules available that you solder a spare ford remote to, and then the aftermarket unit will send its signal through this module, and that will re-gain the ford features..... takes a little more time to install, but worth it IMO.

What is perimeter lighting? My unit had an option for "door priority" which allows the drivers door unlocking, followed by the rest. If I recall correctly I had to run a single wire to the GEM module behind the rear seat and tie into a wire after the module.

parimeter lighting is when the headlights turn on after unlocking the doors. i cant speak for all aftermarket, but i know that at least a few will lose that option.

I also have the Crimestopper unit, and have had no problems with it. Works from quite a distance, and never has failed. I had it installed at a local Ford dealer, and the total cost was about $300.
