josiah i have a feeling if you were going to get a bonus, it went out the window when the cats were stolen off the vans! interesting that ford was cheaper than napa, but thats a good thing. i havent had good luck with napa starters. unfortunately thats what i just put in my truck, so hopefully my luck will change with them.
Well...I got some front end(steering) parts on the way that I want to get on the truck, hopefully soon after the holidays. Right now, however, the cold has killed my starter/solenoid, and the damn thing won't quit cranking. This happened last year, around the same time if I am not mistaken. It's always gotta wait til it's cold and rainy/snowy to do something. Luckily I don't use the truck all too much right now, and it acted up while parked at the g/f's condo. So, needless to say, it's gonna sit and think about what it has done for a few days. The parts I put in it last time were cheap/in a budget crunch autozone cheapo's. I'm not completely surprised, just a bit annoyed that they failed. I priced out napa and motorcraft, and the motorcraft is actually cheaper, so I will be ordering those soon I think. Then...once the christmas bonus(fingers crossed), arrives, the HEI DUI will be ordered. WOO!
Stay warm guys. I will be outdoors most of the day. Poor "Eli's" guy(middletown). They tore up their parking lot, and so now they have to have a guy stand outside all the time to direct people into the "new" parking area. I was there last night, and that guy just looked miserable. Saw a couple cops yesterday as well all bundled up directing traffic. All you could see was there eyes.
Glad to see you home safe Dave. Enjoy the holidays!
I have an open bay if you want to come up Saturday and change your starter. ( I hear Petes garage is currently occupied )
Thought it would be easy slapping in that carb.
33 Y.O. plastic vacuum fittings don't like the cold either.
DOH!
Off to Advance, back to the car, and....
The Damn thing is still flooding.
The brass float wasn't full, I spent 10 minutes setting it "just right" and could hear it rattle if I shook the carb.
Took it back off, took it apart, the gasket isn't hanging it up.(down)
Tried again and it's STILL doing it.
I just don't know.
Jim my garage is avaliable to you also this weekend if you need it. I know you are farther away. I was also outside today, along with Aaron and Steve, it was not pleasent.
has anybody seen the footage of
a: policeman fighting a guy and being rescued by a civilian woman.
b: the guy shooting people at the school board meeting
the news channel at the restaurant was playing those two clips over and over.
jim - does the float pivot pin get held down by a spring or is it pinned through a solid casting? i had trouble with a spring once, it wasnt holding the pivot pin solid enough and the float was working properly but the seat was able to stay open, causing it to flood.

Any ideas Josiah?
Jim...see above to Aaron's suggestion. I have to say that I have not had much luck with my 1bbl as well. I am told they work great WHEN they work, but getting them to that point is a bear. Especially on the TFI-IV version like I have.
Thanks for the offer Ray, but I would have to figure out how to get the truck there first. I also got my front end parts today. Yahoo new steering! Well, mostly new anyway. Got all the steering components south of the pitman arm.
Aaron,
the only spring is in the two piece needle.
The float pivot is a solid pin through 2 ears (or bosses) and is retained by the sides of the bowl when the lid is in place.
I can hear the float moving if I shake the carb so I don't *think* it is bound up.
The seat is clean, as is the inlet screen.
It's a mechanical fuel pump with no return.
I can hold my thumb over the line while cranking and stop the flow.
I still have to do the front end on my truck one of these days. It would be quite nice to get rid of the clunk when I turn my steering wheel. Oh, and the truck responding when I do turn the wheel would be nice as well, haha.
Do you have a place to get the alignment done nearby?
Was thinking about this last night, did you get a new rag joint? Pretty sure they did away with it in the '87 model change. That certainly sounds like the problem.
As far as alignment shops you could go to Strong Alignment on Silver La. in E.H., just around the corner from Cabella's. Or Flanders in Hartford on Franklin Ave.
