I've been through much of canada, only province I haven't been in is PEI, and there's beauty everywhere... I can't say Sask is my favorite, or most beautiful in my eyes, but it is beautiful without a doubt. I'm a hilly, mountainous guy...salt water is in my blood, hence Saskatchewan will be difficult to "love"... If I had to name a favorite place (excluding Newfoundland), it would be Northern Ontario. Everyone's different........
Yeah see Ive never been out east much past Manitoba. Thinking bout heading out east though for a trip this summer.
You kinda got the poor end of the stick too being in southern sask, its not as good as northern sask for the outdoors. About the best place to live would be north of PA. Best hunting, fishing, quadding and sledding for sure!(if your into the outdoors!)
I dont mind visiting the mountains, but they really get in my way! I think of it like a house. In my house I like lots of windows so I can see whats out and around. Mountains are always blocking my damn view haha. Although I have enjoyed climbing mountains on foot. I really figure that Saskatchewan "makes a man outta ya" so to speak. Gotta be tough to handle the weather!

Thats cool. Seems like a guy always wants to go back to where hes from. Have you been shopping for houses and whatnot out there? Wish ya luck with that move man!
We'll build new there. There's land thats been in the family for some time that I can probably get and utilize, as well as some other land around where I grew up. Land in rural areas is very cheap there. We hope to live in my grandparents basement for the first year or so until I get things established and our home started.
Thanks for the good luck wishes. We plan to finish our house here over the winter and have it ready to sell hopefully early spring. Then it'll be finish the existing work I have on the go, finalize a few things and wagons east...
I have never been to Nfld, but did travel NB, NS, and PEI - I liked the Maritimes. Spent lots of time trucking in BC.
Sherm, go on the website for SSA and there are maps there. I have ridden sled in lots of areas - the ride over to Good Spirit is ok from Yorkton - the north end of the lake is slow to freeze! North is where you want to go - over towards Duck Mntn, thru Moose Range lodge, to Hudsons Bay. Or from Duxk Mntn into Manitoba - Childs Lake or Childs Creek (cant recall the name)Another area we have done lots of is in Sheldons home area. Nipawin, WhiteFox, Caribou Creek thru the Eskers - across to Carrot River, to Mistatim - then to Chelan. I dont particularly like trail riding but its neat to cover ground in a hurry, then venture into some deep snow off trails!
My two cents worth on sled insurance - if you guys choose to not have coverage for accident on your sleds, thats a personal choice. However, plates and liability are a must IMHO. Because they travel quick, in off road conditions, think about this --- say you are riding with a friend, and that friend is injured seriously enough to not be able to make a living for themselves or support a family --- its very real!!!
Not wanting to sound like a smart ***, but I have seen a few people hurt riding these things.
Does a lawsuit for monetary support for the rest of your life weigh out vs saving a few bucks???
Just to let you know how serious this is - our group wont allow anyone to ride with us without proper insurance coverage...

Thats a very good idea!! Many people should have that view!! I've always had plates/3rd party liability insurance on my sleds, but they haven't always been worth insuring for anything other than that. I will put insurance on this one though. Accidents happen, theft, fire... Its way too big a loss, not only financially!!
I've got a trail map of the main trails when I plated my sled, but it seems that all the little regions have more trails and more individual detailed maps. I would like to do a lot more exploring into the northern areas of the province if I have time. I've done the Yorkton-Good spirit run lots, been to Madge Lake a couple times, and into the Norquay area once. I really want to go back to the norquay area. I remember there was quite a few "hills" and "bowls" that a person could play on, but at the time I was riding a '98 polaris supersport with my wife on and anything other than the trail was too much snow Hopefully we continue to get snow and I can take some time to find places to ride...
My take on sled insurance... I have been riding sleds since I was 5 years old, it CANT happen to me! haha
We will get it if we end up getting another sled and going more long distance, or trail rides. For bombing around it doesnt make sense, it would be like insuring a quad for regular farm use.
My parents never put plates on their sleds either, so I kinda picked up on that from them. We dont ride fast really either. My woman wont go much over 40 mph through the fields, and I usually like that 60mph mark. Not that an accident cant happen, but driving slower and "pansier" then you guys, really does make it accident coverage less of a concern.
We have everything at our farm insured from theft and fire and whatnot though. My ol lady is good for that, she has all of our belongings insured very very well!
I hope it didnt sound like I was on commission for some insurance company, but I once recieved a registerd letter from a law firm being sued for injury in an accident I was involved in when I was young and haywire.
It wasnt a good feeling...
The thought of losing some of what I had built up, along with working a few days a week and sending this money to someone else wasnt the nicest experience...

Not at all man, experience's from guys with experience, are always good to hear!

100 percent agree, I guess what I was saying though, is since we ride pretty slow and carefull 95 percent of the time on our own land, or right near it, insurance isnt an issue, or necessarily a good idea for us, YET!
You know I dont think I ever actually knew the speed limit on trails either, good to know!
I think this is the first year I've seen speed limit signs on the trails, but I haven't rode in a couple years either. I don't know how "policed" the sask trails are, but back east there has become a great number of LEO presence on the trails. Its a good thing, because DUI is a bigger problem on recreational vehicles than in auto's IMO, and people tend to drive way faster than conditions allow, and their ability. I've known a few guys who've been killed or maimed because of reckless driving on a snowmobile trail. Don't for a second think that the LEO on the trails can't drive either. I remember my uncle telling me of a time when they came upon an accident on the trail, and they'd just seen RCMP at a warm up shack that they'd left not long before. They rode back to get the RCMP to come to the scene, and followed them back. My uncle and cousins have been riding since they could reach the handlebars and are all phenomenal riders. They had a hard time keeping up with the RCMP.
Saskatchewan has just implemented a law stating that anyone born after 1989 must complete a snowmobile safety course and test before being allowed to operate a snowmobile of any size. I think this is a great thing, and I hope that it becomes legislature across Canada if it hasn't already!!!
Colin and I got out for a ride on monday night. It was a fun time, went to Good Spirit from Yorkton. Trails were getting a little rough, but it was passable and fun nontheless... I'm hoping to get out a bit this coming weekend also...
Yes that was a fun ride, thanks Sherwin! Your sled is awesome BTW, now just to convince my wife I need to upgrade haha. We could use some more snow for sure, that would get the trails in good shape.
Thanks!! I and my sled are deeply humbled!! I'm trying to find a MBRP for it... There's an online vender that lists one, but the MBRP website doesn't. I have some emails out for verification.
I should have switched off with you on the way back... Was starting to get a chill and could have used the protection of the bigger machine!!
We'll have to do another ride soon!! Perhaps before the new year!!
