A 200$ day would be leaving the house in the dark, trail riding to some untouched powder bowls and hills, playing hard for the entire day, having to take breaks to run to the nearest town for fuel, then back to the playspot. You'd likely be riding home in the dark also...

I'm not entirely sure how this new sled is or will be, yes its 2-stroke. I think I have about 175kms on it, and perhaps one full tank burned. A full tank would be approximately 40 liters, it has a 43 liter tank, but I never run it dry if possibl!! so perhaps 12mpg, which hasn't been steady trail riding style, so it would get a little better than that on the trail, but worse than that once we get more snow and places to play...

I got a phone call from a buddy last night, saying "lets rip". He just bought a new polaris 4-stroke touring. It was a fun ride, out for an hour or so. Anyone questioning the ability (power/speed) of the 4-stroke sleds better get out and ride with one or ride one. He's a new rider, but the sled instills enough confidence for him to ride well. I have no doubts that his touring would absolutely eat my RMK on top end speed performance. If they could make them lighter and have a more agressive track, I could see it being a threat to the 2-stroke industry. However, its definately not a "flickable" sled like mine.

Hey guys...just wanted to drop you all a line from beautiful Banff Ab.Weather is good , lots o' snow. Polaris is the way to go (my opinion). 08-09's were known for problems in the 800's but 10-11's have changed computer mapping and piston design. I just bought a new 800 RMK 155" and had it out at Quartz Creek near Golden yesterday. 6' of powder and -6....it was perfect.Merry Christmas to all and lets keep everything shiny side up.

Hey fordlimited, 6' and -6 would be a dream... It'll be a while before we have that here. You have a similar sled to what I bought. I bought an '11 RMK Assault... I'm going out right after lunch in search of some more snow...

Went for a little rip yesterday afternoon. Trailered sleds to Duck mountain lodge in the madge lake area. They have lots of good snow up there. I mean lots. We rode mostly trail, I don't know the area real well. Have to go up with someone who knows the area so we can get off the trail and have some fun...

We pretty much go burning around out here every day. Now that we have one sled, Sandi sure wants another! She would way rather drive then ride, and I cant say I blame her!

Its definately a lot of fun. You know, its always been said about how expensive it is to snowmobile compared to other powersport activities. I started comparing it to street biking, and it would take a long time before sledding is more expensive than street biking. The price of each are similar, so a moot point. It cost me 120 to license the sled, probably another 300 to insure it. Either of my bikes will cost me 1g to 1500 to plate, insurance on top of that is about another 300. Huge difference there. Fuel? The bike is way cheaper to run if you run easy. If I started playing with my 'busa like I play on the sled, I'll get way down into the low 20's, even teens for mpg. Sled? Well, yesterday we put on about 50 miles, 50/50 easy riding and ripping, and I burned 1/4 tank of fuel...perhaps 10L... pretty much 20mpg right? Had it been totally trail riding it might have been a little better than that.

De-railing my own topic, but just some things I've been considering...

What type of riding are you'se doing around there Prep? Mostly field exploring?

Thats interesting to figure it out that way. I can tell for us its more expensive, just the fuel part though, but really, it doesnt bother me for the entertainment factor. My bike is really good on fuel, and doing the comparable type riding like trail riding, playing around the gravel roads and whatnot its alot cheaper. It does cost more to license as I pay 0 for the sled

Yeah just doing field riding around here for now. There isnt a whole lot of trails right around here, I would have to go to the river, and with one person its never as fun!

Also since we bought the sled used, and for so cheap, Ive been staying around the 5 miles from home mark, just till I get to see how reliable (or non reliable!) it is!

Alot of playing in the drifts and approach's and stuff like that too, its just to fun to drive by! Basically alot of "bootin" around.

What about yourself?

I like to explore. I do licence the sled, 'cause you get the trail permit with the licence, and trails are good for getting you to other places to explore. I'm looking forward to finding some hilly areas and open older bush areas where a person can carve between trees. I really miss the riding we used to do back east, where an hours ride on a trail would get you to someplace you could run off the trail and play for an entire day without crossing your own tracks twice. There is some places like that in the northern parts of sask to my understanding, but its more than an hours ride to get there...

The rides farther up north are truely amazing. When I was young we used to go on sledding trips all the time, and you could drive for miles and miles, and it was pure awesome!

My ideal riding is "offroad" trail riding, if that makes sense. I like to go where no one else likes to go.

I enjoy that for biking, hiking, quadding, you name it.

I like playing around too, but no where near the same extent.

Really though, Northern Saskatchewan is a deadly place if you into the outdoors. The only thing its missing for some guys, is the mountains! Ive been all over western canada, from the bottom, to damn near the top, and Saskatchewan really is blessed for the outdoors. Minus the mountains, if ya like them damn ugly pieces of rock in your way haha.

I've been through much of canada, only province I haven't been in is PEI, and there's beauty everywhere... I can't say Sask is my favorite, or most beautiful in my eyes, but it is beautiful without a doubt. I'm a hilly, mountainous guy...salt water is in my blood, hence Saskatchewan will be difficult to "love"... If I had to name a favorite place (excluding Newfoundland), it would be Northern Ontario. Everyone's different........
